This workshop is hands on—in an afternoon you will : Make soap from materials you probably have in your kitchen; Make the tool you will need to cut the soap from recycled resources; Hear about the fascinating history of how soap used to be made; Learn enough theory to “do it yourself”; Make face or hand cream from local beeswax and olive oil; And enjoy great lunch made from local food

You will need to bring: An old ice-cream container or plastic box no bigger than about 25cm x 25 cm for your soap and a metal-screw-top lidded glass jar, wider than it is tall – like a salsa jar – for your face cream

Materials will be supplied for those who can’t find something.

Cost: $30

Berra Boy,

The doctor in the US wasn’t being chased because of running his car on people’s fat, apparently all his patients agreed to it. It was because he was allowing his girlfriend to perform procedures unlicensed.

“To make soap, first we have to render fat”

“The best fat for making soap because the salt balance is just right — comes from human bodies…”

Heh heh Skid. You won the cupee doll.

if miss monro was alive today …..she would be doing ME!!!

Would Marilyn Monroe be doing this if she were alive right now?

Ps: go read Fight Club, not just watch the movie… At first he actually knows the person he acquires the tallow from, they only went a-raidin’ after the supply couldn’t keep up with demand…

You need liposuction fat.

While I laughed at first I realised Pandy’s right and that that’s been tried before, circa 1940’s. A truly awful and evil thing. That said, did anybody read about the Dr in the US who is being sought by the authorities after he posted on his website that he’d successfully converted his car to run on human fat that he’s sucked out of patients at his surgery?

Sorry, OT – I’d like to know the answer to Granny’s question too please, is this for kids as well as adults?

I can understand people wanting to “make your own” most things. I learnt to make my own candles years ago…I haven’t done it for years but it was interesting, fun and decorative. I grow my own herbs and vegies, am handy with woodwork and do most normal maintainance on my car.

And this semester Adult Community Education is offering a Make your own Fetta course, I think I will enrol.

But soap? You can pick it up for about 50 cents a cake when on special.

I just couldn’t get excited about making my own.

Hey…good luck to you though. Each to their own.

You need liposuction fat.

Wow! That’s a really good site. (They’ve even got Ecopella on the front page, Overheard!) I thought the seed kits were really interesting also.

Can children attend this workshop or is it geared more towards adults?

Paper Street Soap people!

Obligatory quote:

Zim: “Why is there bacon in this soap?”
Gir: “AH MADE IT MAAHSELF!”
