Just wondering if anyone else is aware of the fact that for the last week 60 Iraqi Police Officers have been undergoing training at CIT. I have no problem with that. They are probably being trained in how to speak English or something.

My issue with this is why this is such a secret.

Actually the training is taking place at CIT solutions. But shhhhhh – they don’t want anyone to know.

It is hardly Secret, as this is from The Age, Monday 16 February 2009.

They’re studying forensics here for a few months (maybe so they can investigate all the horrors their country has experienced over the last 30 yrs).

Not a secret – just not publisised – I’m sure if you called CIT they would happily tell you what’s happening.

The public learn about events cos PR people make an effort to make promote them, if there is no pressing reason for the public at large to know about an event then why spend money on PR?

Would the general public all know at once if a gov dept was spending money on replacing their photocopiers? Probably not. But it wouldn’t be a secret – you’d just need to read their Annual Report…

Far out… Thank god the comments in this post did not follow your theme of paranoia..

You are probably the kind of person that starts mumbling under her breath when a family of foreigners sits next to her family at a beach!

*vomit* – on you!

Did you want them to run a front page story on it or something?
Who cares?

There are tonnes of international students (from all over the world) studying in Canberra at any given time. Big deal.

And a warm welcome to the students. Hope you enjoy you stay in Canberra. Next….

Do you know which CIT Campus? CIT Bruce has a Forensic Investigation course, considered one of the best in the country.

I’d say security reasons – for us and them. And as an afterthought, they might also want to try and apply for refugee status and we can’t have that. Oh, wait, that was the last government.

Sorry, MWF. From now on we’ll make sure that you, personally, are advised of everything that happens in the city, as obviously something that you aren’t informed of is a “secret” or “cover-up”.

They generally charge about 5-10 (500% – 1000%) times more for overseas students at CIT, cause they aren’t heavily funded by our Govt… So cha-ching $$$ all over the world!

Yep, I know this cause I worked there last year.

I don’t understand you problem, is it that people from Iraq have entered australia without getting your permission? or that there wasn’t a major media event?

is it a ‘secret’, or was it simply not trumpeted? you found out, haven’t heard you’ve been dragged into the night – mountains, molehills…?

What the robot said. If this is an ‘issue’, you’ve got bigger ones, believe me.

Probably for security. Police recruits are one of the main targets for bombings in Iraq – to deter others from joining up.
