Cycling in pedestrian areas

Why do cyclist insist on riding on their bikes in the confined and heavy foot traffic area of Gus’s, Milk and Honey, Cafe Essen and also across the road in the narrow path that holds Cream, Sammy’s, Wagaman etc. I am sick and tired of nearly being bashed into by some stupid girl or boy on a bike. I must say that it is not your ‘normal’ cyclist it is normally some stupid little idiot in knee high socks, stupid hat and or sunnies with big ass handle bars.

When I grab their handle bars that are normally coming towards my stomach, chest or face depending on the stupid handle bar thing, they seem to get offended when I tell them to ‘get off their bike’. I really wish that their is a no riding policy in the city where their is a built up pedestrian area. It is dangerous and could really hurt or injure some one

I’m getting tired of runners on the shared paths who reach their secret spot and make a blind U turn. Very scary.

When arguing for the poor opressed cyclist, think about who the pedestrians are – not just fit, healthy and presumably nimble young people hanging out at the cafe precinct, but shoppers, office workers, the elderly and people with vision impairments and other disabilities (remember that the Griffin Centre is nearby). An advertising and policing campaign to remind cyclists of their obligations, sensitivity to the safety of pedestrians, appropriate use of the road, and greater compliance with these rules would go a long way.

But cyclists who use the footpath at their own convenience without regard for others may not be particularly receptive to the idea that they should try being more considerate. If you’re self-centred to start with…

Don’t you oppress me Astrojax!

(I’d love to give it a try though)

I sometimes ride a pushbike, sometimes a motorbike, sometimes I drive my car, sometimes I walk and sometimes (to often for my liking) I even have to fly. I find the majority of people around me know how to do these things properly and are courteous to those around them… and there are those that aren’t.

Maybe I’m getting older but I try not to let discourteous knobs of any ind raise my blood pressure to un-health levels any more. I just hope karma exst and that they pay for their poor behaviour by coming across swarms of European wasps.

As kamahl says, “why are people so unkind”.

Build a bridge people…

Then we can argue over who has the right of way regarding the use of it.

No not selfish…. Trouble maker ;0

Read the tag – mwah!

PS They are actually on training wheels!

Usual pedestrian selfishness, not wanting to share with the friendly cyclists. It’s so sad when people can’t stand someone else having fun.

normally some stupid little idiot in knee high socks… When I grab their handle bars… blah blah blah

Dude, do you just do this if the cyclist is smaller than you? How can being agro make this situation better?

Alrighty. Pedestrians and Cyclists, everybody out. Yes, everybody off the streets. If you can’t play nicely then don’t play at all.

Is that better ?

Shiny Flu…. Wow…

That was a mouthful…. So many assumptions!

Hope you feel better now!

How about you sneeze in a bag and see if you can make that shiny flu a snot face ;0

Yesterday I saw someone riding through the interchange right out front of that body building shop ringing their bell for ppl to move.. this was around 5pm and there were heaps of people around. I felt like knocking the idiot off. I ride a bike to, but half of them a pack of idiots.. except me, of course.

Turn that street in to a one way shared zone and give the cyclists better access to the road.

When I grab their handle bars that are normally coming towards my stomach, chest or face depending on the stupid handle bar thing, they seem to get offended when I tell them to ‘get off their bike’. You are completely stupid.

How about I grab your mobile phone when you’re in the cinema/restaurant/library etc. because I don’t like the excessive noise? Sure it’s petty and I would give the phone back, but it’s also potentially illegal should one want to pursue the case. What you are doing to people is also quite dangerous putting you and the person riding in an unsafe situation. Are you forgetting that you’re in Civic? It’s a populated busy area. You are not a city ranger nor a police officer. It is not your right nor responsibility to enforce the law.

They are completely stupid.

Grail is right, 10m exclusion zone in front of a business and the simple fact that every moving vehicle has to give pedestrians right of way- even if the pedestrians are being stupid as you are. People shouldn’t ride through, but people do.

The reason why you are experiencing issues when you are trying to fulfill your yuppie dining dreams is that Civic is poorly designed for mixed transportion use. Especially thoroughfares in and out of the city centre.

You need to wear a high-visibility jacket.

My friend got grazed by a bike last year somewhere on “pedestrian lane”.. only to have the rider utter invectives at him, as he rabidly sped off. I should know, I was there.. amblin’ ever-so easily along the “non-blind” side. LOL

If I stand beside my bike and walk it through that path I take up the entire path width. If I ride it through – when it isn’t crowded and very very slowly, I take up less width and one person can get past in the other direction. If it’s busy then I go the long way around.

Why do cyclist insist on riding on their bikes in the confined and heavy foot traffic area of Gus’s, Milk and Honey, Cafe Essen and also across the road in the narrow path that holds Cream, Sammy’s, Wagaman etc

specifically to annoy people who complain on blogs, i’d rekkun…

i saw a duck once. where is maelinar these days??

And what does the ED mean by “here we go again”?

Cyclist flamebaiting and mutual abuse is something of a RiotACT sport.

It’s illegal to ride a bike or skateboard within 10m of the public entrance of a shop already.

And what does the ED mean by “here we go again”? Hrm?

Stupid people are stupid, regardless of whether they’re (ex-MLA) Michael Moore bitching about cyclists using “his” road or stupidly riding bikes in pedestrian thoroughfares.

Or worse, when they share a narrow road lane (without a dedicated bike lane) with traffic doing 60-80km/h and complain when they get hit.

Im a cyclist, but let be be the first to say that some people are just f’in retards.
