Automotive mayhem in Kaleen?

Posh 5 May 2009 48

Did anyone hear or see the idiot speeding at what would have been easily 120kms in Maribyrnong Street, Kaleen at around 11.15pm last night?

Apparently this wasn’t the first occasion through the night.

I thought it was a motor bike from the sound of it, but was shocked to see what looked like an early 70’s Datsun(?) speeding from before Ellenborough round about up towards Giralang then 5 minutes later come back in the opposite direction at an unbelievable speed.

If you were crossing the road or trying to turn into a street you wouldn’t have had a hope of surviving that crash.

Oh blah, blah blah PeterH.

If it’s Tempesta’s fantasy to hear a rotary whiz by his home before losing control and skid screeching into a tree with a huge bang, run out the front door and walk up to the smoking car, glass all shattered and wrapped around the tree, crippled driver moaning and softly calling out for help while blood pours from the side of his face, as Tempesta looks up and down the street – no one has come out yet but lights are coming on so must act quickly, grab the jerry can of petrol and swiftly splash it over the smoking bonnet before throwing the can into the arms of the desperate driver before stepping back as a loud WHOMP! sound as the car ignites – then that’s his business and who are you to judge?

It’s a Datsun, there would be no need for pouring petrol over the vehicle, the driver would have been killed instantly due to the car having about a minus 4 safety rating.

Personally I would have grabbed the rego and make of the car then reported to the police. Though the car was probably stolen anyway.

Now I feel like barbeque…

– If only a rotisserie would come whizzing by my home.

Canberra seems to get the extremes in drivers – tools like this guy and then the idiots who insist on trundling along in the right hand lane at a top speed of 60k along the parkway.

I have just moved into Kaleen and It seems that there are a lot of idiot drivers in the suburd a red/maron car with P plates was speeding up and down Diamantina last night as well. It would be easy for the police to pick up a few fines on Diamantina especailly up at the end in the 40km/per hour zone near the school

wow. I wish you could hear the idiots on kambah pool road, or the fool who almost cleaned up a pedestrian on townshend street today. thing is, i have an obligation to help when i see an accident, regardless of whether they were driving dangerously or not. doesn’t kaleen have all those chicanes, or is that giralang?

Unfortunately Maribyrnong is the main road that all the other roads feed off. There is only one small round-about about half way around (joins Ellenborough which connects to Lyneham). At the round-about you can see burn-out marks on the road where they obviously like playing fishtails and where the race begins.

Don’t know what the answer is – speed bumps can be a pain – but since there are two schools in this part of Maribyrnong then maybe that would stop them speeding along (both day and night)on what is probably the straightest section of Maribyrnong.

I feel sorry for the people who live near speed bumps on learmonth drive, must be very frustrating and annoying.

So what if there are loud cars driving around Kaleen, … im sure there are loud cars in every suburb.

I’ve lived here for what 6 months, …. nothing more notable than in other suburbs I’ve lived in, and that includes the dirt bikes riding all over the parks here.

Whats a pop off valve? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blowoff_valve

If you run a turbo that spools early its a fact of life………

I also believe, like some people in this thread, that people who annoy me should suffer. If a truck drives near my street and uses its loudy loud loud brakes, the drivers head should explode.

It’s a little off-topic, but can anyone help me with my physics homework?

Q1) If a car is doing 120km, and hits a 35-degree one metre high ramp, how badly will the occupants soil themselves?

Perhaps it’s time the authorities put a ban on engine modifications which increase power. Some of these morons are running around in machines more powerful than those punted around Bathurst by Brock, Moffat, etc but with 10% of the driving ability of those guys.

Ceej1973 Ceej1973 2:00 am 06 May 09

Agreed farnarkler. While they are at it, the authorities should ban speedos, indicators and mufflers, cause it seems most people have either modified them or dont use them at all in Canberra. And they should make it mandatory to remove headlights so that only fog lights can be used, to legally satisify Canberran’s obsession with fog light use in clear conditions. Oh,and they may as well request the removal of front bumper bars on vehicles so drivers can tailgate legally, just that few inches closer.

Posh Posh 9:08 am 06 May 09

Speaking of modifications… is anyone else annoyed by the new headlights that they are putting on cars? Even on low beam they are blinding.

That’s often because they’re poorly adjusted, or because you are seeing them coming over the top of a hill.

It’s been a while since you paid much attention to Australian motor sport then?

Posh Posh 9:55 am 06 May 09

No VYBerlinaV8_the_on – these are more like those energy saving globes we have in the house. More of a ‘white flourescent’ type rather than the old ‘dull’ type.

And preventing someone modifying a car with standard 100bhp to 150bhp makes no difference when you can go out and buy a FPV/HSV with 400bhp standard?

Clown Killer Clown Killer 10:02 am 06 May 09

Posh, I think that your talking about bi-xenon lights which are increasingly common on newer European cars. The light they emit is much whiter than the more common halogen lights. The bi-xenons would still need to conform to the same ‘brightness’ levels(measured in lumens I believe) as regular cars.

Posh Posh 10:07 am 06 May 09

Maybe I need to drive with welding goggles – maybe the bi-xenons are blinding the lumens as well as me.

You can slug a single ball bearing turbo on an Ls1 for around 10K. Including all turbo, exhaust, fuel system and computer work.

That’ll get you near 400rwkw/650rwnm, and surprisingly, near standard fuel economy if you don’t belt it.

That’s a tad more power than a v8 supercar, but you have much more weight to lug around. Be careful kiddies.
