The ACT Government is drip feeding quite a lot of its budget in advance. One way to dominate the local news cycle we suppose and it’s not as if the financial markets care much.
The latest is Chief Minister Stanhope promising to spend $12 million sprucing up the paving and street furniture around the iconic Sydney and Melbourne buildings:
- “This year’s Budget will provide $12 million over four years for priority upgrades to the City Centre focusing on East and West Rows,” Mr Stanhope said. “This targeted investment will encourage more visitors, tourists and trade in the City Centre, which in turn will boost business activity and help to protect jobs.
“Canberra’s iconic Sydney and Melbourne Buildings will benefit from improved paving and new street furniture.
Bear in mind the current state of Civic is apparently the “after” photo following $19 million in spending investment.
