Where and how to get dirty?

I am considering buying a motor trail bike (something like a Suzuki DR-Z 250) and would like to hear from trail bike riders about good places to ride round Gungahlin area (dirt roads, tracks and open areas). Ideally I would like to join a trail riding group for day and/or weekend trips around the ACT.

It’s been a while since riding dirt bikes for me, so it would be good to talk to some current riders about equipment, etc.

Cheers.

What sort of community are you trying to create,Latte sipping computer nerds by the looks of things.Cmon Canberra,MAN UP!..I have lived here all my life, and i have seen ACT govt make some stupid choices..isn’t it about time they started to bring the fun back, maybe we should stop voting for jellyfish..NO MORE INVERTABRATES IN GOVERNMENT!

http://www.canberrariders.org.au is a pretty active community of both road and offroad riders 🙂

That’s the place to go to organise local rides. https://www.dsmra.asn.au/ are also active in the Canberra area. As ^^^ have pointed out, you need to be registered to be legal, but if you are the trails around Canberra are almost endless.

Just sign up and ask in there.

To be honest you’d be wasting your money buying a dirt bike and not registering it, unless you have access to private property.

And have a look at the new KLX before you buy a DRZ…..

Selling trail bikes is one of the biggest scams in the motor industry. You can buy one, but it is almost impossible to use one for its designed purpose.

Unregistered Trail Bikes cannot legally be ridden anywhere in the ACT except for privately owned land with the consent of the owner. Good luck with that!

Registered trail bikes can be ridden in ACT National Parks and Forests if the rider is licensed and you do not go more than 40km/hr. So knock yourself out puttering around the forests at a sedate pace,
