May I suggest that this poor bugger was travelling south from the Federal Highway, to turn right onto Majura/Horsepark Drive.
Pulled out in front of a truck travelling west.
No-one will ever know how he made such a fatal mistake.

My condolences to his relatives.

No, he wasn’t.

Hear, hear.

The word they’re looking for is “fatality”. Back to primary school for whoever wrote that.

Best you pick up a suitable tome explaining in detail how English changes to suit the users, always has and always will. Wouldst thou no doubting have us to speaking ye olde Eenglisch perhaps?

Actually, we haven’t seen a horrible high-speed death (cordies, mullies et al) on Canberra’s roads (touch wood) for more than a year have we? I hope that will be an ongoing lull. RIP to the poor fellow who just died.

Intersection of Majura Rd and the federal highway … was it on Majura Road itself, or where the traffic blends onto the federal highway?

It amazes me how many people we still lose on the roads. Condolences to the man’s family and friends.

That’s a silly statement bereft of any underlying reasoning… a knee jerk response one might say.

Think of the stats. Maybe 120,000 cars in Canberra for its population of 300,000+. Eac car doing, for argument’s sake, 10,000km within the ACT. A few simple keystrokes on a miracle of computerisation givers me a figure of 1,200,000,000 kms per year. At the horrendous figure of 12 deaths a year we seem to be capable of driving, on average, 100,000,000kms between fatals.

Seems like a pretty safe pastime to me.

I think you are missing the point. Twelve people are twelve people, all with family and friends who are grieving for their loss. The figures do not matter. If that makes me bereft of reason, I’m quite happy to be bereft.

Actually what amazes me is that there are not more fatalities on our roads given the number of both incompetent and dangerous drivers out there.

“Fatal” is not a noun.

Is too.

1652 J. Gaule ???-?????? 162 Providence is in the ordering of casuals, as well as fatals.
