$13 million to fix Taylor Primary

Just under two decades earlier when it first opened and Nappy Valley accurately described Kambah. A lot of us came over from Village Creek Primary (where my mum taught).

We had 40 kids up on Malcolm Place. Someone put up a sign stating as much, asking people to slow down. Little Georgie Gregan and the Inkster Street mob were also part of our clan, although I think he went to St Thomas?

Climbing the mountain to throw tambark at the Torrens kids was a regular event, as were the cubby wars with surrounding neighbourhoods. Lots of new homes with building supplies lying around made for great raw materials and we were forever building our own “forts” and trashing other peoples.

(Apologies if I’m spamming a bit over last two days – stuck at home with the bub and the conversation, while entertaining, is a bit monosyllabic.)

Oh.

Didn’t Mount Neighbour have some critial structural issues at the time? From memory weren’t they so severe that the school would have had to of been knocked down anyway.

Also their is still 2 public primary schools and 1 catholic primary school in Kambah.

What good would have having 2 more open primary schools that were being used have anyway?
Splitting the school into seperate schools? farming the students to those schools would have caused huge disruptions to the all the students and staff of all schools.

They just moved the whole school to the year 9 and 10 sections of Namagi School as Namagi doesn’t have years 9 or 10 atm. No changing of teachers or of classes so minimal disruption to the learning of the students.

I think Taylor’s new enrolments for next year are limited to Kindergarten. (replacing the leaving year 6 class).

They only knocked down one…. Village creek is a now a health services centre, Mount Neighbour has turned into downsizing public housing (or some other kind of public housing). I dunno what Urambi is now but then it’s really close to Namagi School.

I’m happy they aren’t completely knocking down Taylor ( knockdown rebuild which apparently was one of the options). Whatever they were doing Taylor was going to remain a primary school.

Ahhh Legoland, how I loved thee. Catching grasshoppers, snacking on that bitter grass, vegemite crusts for sale at the canteen, hippy teachers and Bob Dylan singalongs.
