Albert Hall behind the wire for renovations

Have you seen the fence around Albert hall?

I have, I was invited to come and check it out as I had the hall booked for the next Handmade [markets] in 5 weeks. This is what I found……

A very big fence, surrounding the entire outdoor area. I was told this would house all the building and packing materials. All side entrances are to be blocked off once the scaffolding goes up this coming week. This means that if you use the hall there is only ONE entry and exit point but you will get a key to unlock the gates should the need arise.

The cost would still be the same and no discount offered even though you get none of the facilities you have booked, in fact I did receive the words I always get from staff “if you don’t want it we can always get someone who does” Nice!

I can have a refund, I should think so, then was told” I don’t know why they even took your booking, I knew this was happening at least 18 months ago” It is a pity the employee that did take my booking didn’t know about the renovation, I could ask him but guess what “he doesn’t work here any more” There’s a shock.

Don’t get me wrong I am thrilled the hall is getting the TLC it needs. The mis management of the hall is simply unbelievable. At this rate no one will want to hire it, or will be able to afford to hire it, when it is finished.

What a shame!

They did assure me that their insurance company was more than happy with the one entry point, I certainly was not

I don’t blame you for not being happy! Since when do insurance companies determine the safety of a venue? I would be concerned if it was rented out to anyone else during the renovation.

That is a relief, as I have been to the last two and the crush was horrendous. A bigger venue is much appreciated

The woolshed is going to allow more stalls AND bigger isles and walk ways. It is going to be sensational really.

I can’t imagine being there for those markets with only one entry.exit! I felt clautrophobic enough as it was at the last markets… Hopefully the enw venue is more open!

Only one entry and exit point?? Is that legal from a fire safety point of view?

I think Yarralumla Woolshed will be great though it sucks that you had to move at such short notice. A shame they chose to be rude instead of apologising and falling at your feet to make it up to you. I wish people were more polite especially when they are at fault.
