The Power of the Lollypop

What is the power of a lolly-pop man or lady?

Well this morning in the Bus Interchange in Civic on the corner of East Row and Alinga Street, heaps, apparently.

A lollypop lady took it upon herself to go beyond the normal “Stop/Slow” functions and considered it her role to use the lollypop as a barrier to stop pedestrians going between two cones – chasing after them on a number of occasions. It later took on the form of an offensive weapon with her throwing the lollypop at one errant teenager who got around her and actually taking a swipe at someone a little later on, apparently making contact. She also took photos of alleged malefactors, presumably to place on Facebook…..lollypops – unlimited cosmic power. To do this she had to leave her assigned post….

It should be pointed out that at no stage did these antics actually take place with a view to helping people across the street or preventing accident or injury – but came close to causing it.

What on earth was DEFAMATORY about any of the comments here?

Play nicely…..perhaps you would feel different if it was you who got whacked by a lollypop, phototext….

“Does the word DEFAMATION mean anything to you??”

You’re a bundle of joy.

“get your facts straight otherwise it could land you in all kinds of trouble.”

Threatening someone over something so trivial as a post on RiotACT is a tad of an over reaction don’t you think Rach ?

Good on you Rach. It’s not like you’re the only one who ever registered to make a comment. Wait a minute – you HAVE to register to comment.

#15 Thank you that is infact what happened, it is nice to see someone has used their common sense.

#14 I had never heard of this website before until my work colleague who regulary visits it noticed the right up on the lollypop lady and informed me of it, so I had to register to comment. As I was personally invloved in the incident I thought it was my right to make a comment just as it is your right to your opinion however, I suggest in future that if you feel the need to express your opinion you get your facts straight otherwise it could land you in all kinds of trouble.

It seems more than a little likely that she was one of the literally thousands of lurkers that read RiotACT without commenting or indeed having an account – so she registered in order to comment.

#11, what a remarkable coincidence that you joined RiotACT just as an incident that you where involved with was posted on this site.

Hilarious.

All y’all defending Madam Lollypop – couple of things:

1. Where she was stopping and assaulting people was AFTER they had crossed the road – i.e. when there was no traffic. Thusly she left her post stopping buses and trucks to chase pedestrians who had safely crossed – and probably causing a safety hazard.

2. The cones themselves were on the far side of the road – opposite Legal Aid – they were to cordon off a cement mixer, that was stationary, with the engine off and no driver and thus no danger of anyone getting flattened;

3. There were no non verbal cues or anything – the lollypop was thrown or swung at people with intent to harm – sorry, when there is no safety issue etc, that constitutes an assault. I personally saw her take a swipe at a young woman and hit her in the behind and then the stomach. What if that girl had been pregnant? Sorry, not even the Plods can do that.

The Lollypop Fueheress is back there today – but a lot bettter behaved. I guess she got ‘told’.

And you can bet ya the company she works for doesnt have a SMP (safety management plan)or TTM (temporary traffic management) plan in place either, the later a requirement of the Guvment. Isnt that a Bovis site anyway. Pretty sure there motto is “we have families to go home too to”.

I personally saw her take a swipe at a young woman and hit her in the behind and then the stomach.

Sounds like she’s extremely lucky not have copped a punch in the face.

This is for TheObserver #9 post…

Firstly I would like to say thank you for clearing that up for everyone else who made comments above and were not actually there to see exactly what happened. I am the woman and thank you again for calling me young who was assaulted by the very aggressive Lollypop lady. Myself and the other woman with me witnessed her assaulting other pedestrians earlier in the morning and also thrusted that damn sign in our faces grunting at us “Walk around the cones” before we even started walking across the road, after which we witnessed her throwing the sign at the young guy. The cones were not set up correctly and there were no signs to warn pedestrians to stay clear of that area, people were still able to walk down the foot path apparently where it was too dangerous to walk. This lady had no right to assault people with that sign and yes it hurt when she whacked me in the stomach with it, I also made the statement “She is very lucky I am not pregnant”

So please for all of you who were not there and feel the need to defend her DON’T! as I am sure you would feel the same way I do if you had been assaulted by her.

Are they still in the habit of showing the “slow” to conflicting streams of traffic at the same time, or have they trained that one out of them. It was a common occurence, I am told, when the traffic light work was being done at belco.

good laugh in the morning! Thanks 🙂

She’s drunk with the power of wearing a high-visibility safety-vest.

Those fluro yellow and orange tones are intoxicating, leading tradies to believe that women are magically attracted to them when wearing said vests.

Those people that are too stoooopid to understand why cones are there, and also can’t understand simple verbal cues should be left to wander aimlessly into the danger those warnings are there to indicate… no wonder Ms Lollipop lost her cool… people don’t like having to wait or, God forbid, move the further 20m to do “the right thing”… Maybe they ALL *deserve* a slap on the bum with a large metal object… at least they might change they ways ‘next time’…

The building sites in city west seem to think one traffic controller for 3 directions of traffic is suitable. I often sit and watch the confusion as they hold the stop sign up high so drivers on the far side of trucks can see it, but in turn show slow to the cars behind them..

hahahahhaha sorry that was funny 🙂 but very disappointing for a lollypop lady. thanks for sharing!

She doesn’t realise her job is to show up, so that her employers fulfil their OH&S obligations. Nothing more.

I’ve seen the “Lollypop” people in Civic cop a lot of abuse for simply carrying out their job, that is, to stop idiots getting squashed by large trucks.

I’d be all for Darwins theories to take their course and for them to get squashed by large trucks but then someone would get on here and whinge that they had no one there to protect the idiots.

Why people cannot simply walk around the danger areas without being all huffy and rude is beyond me. Freaks.
