ACT Brumbies coach Laurie Fisher does not believe a new 16 Team Super competition is necessary to revamp the current Super 14 Rugby compeition according to this CT story. A few of the interesting points to come out of the floated idea. Getting an overseas and Argentine team playing from Melbourne, use of an overseas player for other teams and how the renegotiation with News Corporation for broadcast rights at the end of 2009 might influence events.

First things first, Australian teams need to pick up their games and start playing winning rugby, rather than the play average and wait for the other team to make a mistake game. The new rules will certainly make for a different Super 14 Competition next year.

Now that the ARC has been deleted, we will wallow in mediocrity for a long time.
Sure the ARC lost money in it’s first year, but that should be seen as an investment in Australian Rugby’s future.
We will never get past the RWC quarter finals without a comp like the ARC.
The NPC, Currie Cup & Heineken Cup are leaving us for dead

I hope so, the past two years have been as boring as bat shit. Great cure for insomnia, poor excuse for a football competition.
