$2.5 million to set up Actew Water

The ABC reports on the bill to hand water services back from ActewAGL to Actew Water in an increasingly complicated dance which one can only hope is leading to electricity privatisation (otherwise the whole thing has been insane).

On July 1, Actew Water assumed direct responsibility for the management and operation of the water and sewage network from ActewAGL.

Water and sewerage had been managed by ActewAGL since ACTEW Corporation and AGL formed a joint venture in 2000.

The costs of setting up the new organisation include sending out 150,000 letters to customers to tell them of the change, as well as staff transfer costs, contract renegotiations, legal fees, and rebranding uniforms and trucks.

For the money, they could have sent ’round Mark Sullivan, in person, to each pensioner and elderly or disabled customer – and sent everyone else and email or SMS.

Are you saying just because people are old or disabled that they don’t have access to Text messaging or know how to use it?

Not at all. Two out of three of my grandparents houses have wifi. But the reason given for these mass mail-outs is usually so that people don’t “miss out” on the message, and the people I mentioned are usually the ones considered “at risk” of missing out.

Big businesses really need to work toward systems where people who get dead tree mail are the exception, rather then the rule.

We got that letter. What a spectacular waste of money… could they not put this info on our next bill?

What’s a bet that we will now get all three ActewAGL bills in different envelopes.

they could have sent us an email to tell us of the change…..they have my email details as I am registered for their online services.

I don’t get three ActewAGL paper bills anymore – mine are electronic only.

it beggars belief that they couldn’t put all three bills in the one envelope.

I got 2 letters, 1 for supply for my “units plan” and 1 for usage. WTF didn’t they just write on the next bill.

This is the same mob that blew $50 million of our money on TransACT. What do you expect?

Actew Water?

Looks like someone paid too much attention to the “Michael, Michael. Hill, Hill. Sale, sale.” TVCs from a few years back, haha.
