Life in lockdown just got a whole lot sweeter for a Belconnen couple after they finally answered the phone shortly after the Powerball draw on Thursday night.

After initially ignoring the calls, the young pair eventually picked up the phone to find out they’re now $20 million richer.

The ACT couple in their 30s held the only division one winning entry in Powerball draw 1320, drawn last night (2 September).

In addition to winning the division one jackpot of $20,507,103.16, the couple’s PowerHit entry also scored division two 19 times, bolstering their total windfall to $20,852,900.31.

The couple were still hard at work at home when officials called to break the news they were now Australia’s newest multi-millionaires.

“Oh my God!” the winning man exclaimed while his wife screamed in the background.

“I saw I had two missed calls, and I thought, ‘who’s calling me at this time?’,” the man said.

“I thought, ‘I’m not answering this. They’re probably ringing with bad news’. I’m glad I answered now!

“We were literally still working when you called,” they told the official.

The winner claimed he rarely bought lottery tickets, but some numbers had popped into his head.

“No jokes, two nights ago, I was lying in bed, and these numbers pop into my head randomly,” he said.

“I don’t buy lottery tickets that often, but lately we’ve been like, ‘let’s just do it. Who knows?’

“I bought a ticket into Set for Life using those numbers. But while I was getting that, I just thought I’d throw in a PowerHit entry as Powerball had $20 million.

“You’ve got to be in it to win it!”

The couple said they’d often fantasised about what they’d do if they ever won the big one and now looked forward to making some of those long-held dreams a reality.

“This is just going to mean a lot for the whole family,” the winning man said.

“I want to help my parents and siblings. I want to buy a house for our young family. It’s going to make a world of difference.”

The winning PowerHit QuickPick entry was purchased online.
