ACT Policing has arrested a 20-year-old woman who allegedly robbed a hearing-impaired man at the Woden Bus Interchange yesterday (Sunday, September 16).
Police will allege that around 1.37pm the offender approached the 46-year-old Kambah man, who feared for his safety and handed over a sum of cash. The victim is both hearing impaired and mute, and communicates through sign language.
An anonymous witness saw the incident and contacted ACT Policing Operations, and an alert was issued on the alleged offender.
Police officers attending the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (Monday, September 17) recognised the alleged offender. She was later arrested and taken to the ACT Watch House where she was charged under Section 32 of the Crimes Act, “make demand with threat to kill or inflict grievous bodily harm”.
Police will oppose bail.
