The Unknown Soldier at the heart of the War Memorial is coming up on his 20th anniversary in that place.

Above is 7 minutes of Brendan Nelson talking about it if you’re into that sort of thing.

It does explain the recent hoo haa.

On 11 November 2013, the Australian War Memorial will hold a special ceremony to mark the 20th anniversary of the reinterment of the Unknown Australian Soldier in the Hall of Memory. On this occasion, a new bronze plaque will be installed at the entrance to the Hall. It contains the entire text of the eulogy for the Unknown Australian Soldier that then Prime Minister Paul Keating delivered at the original ceremony in 1993. The bronze plaque replaces an existing framed print of the eulogy previously displayed in this position. A new inscription on the Tomb’s bevelled surround will also be unveiled. The inscription contains the words “He is all of them, and he is one of us”, taken from the eulogy. The words “Known unto God” inscribed beside the tomb since 1999 will be retained.
