I see the nominations are out for this year’s CAT awards. See the link below. Some interesting nominations. RiotACT should run its own poll.

Any comments on the winners? Were they what you expected? LurkerGal should be happy with the four awards for Seussical.

Buy a ticket to the Awards Lurkergal and you might get some surprises. Is Kimba on the judging panel??
Tickets for the 11th Gala Evening of the 2005 Telstra Countrywide CAT Awards are now on sale at the Canberra Theatre for Saturday 11th Feb
and prices are very reasonable this year thanks to Telstra Country Wide.

Support your own industry and they will go on for another 10 years hopefully

A pity Children of the Black Skirt was not seen by more people. It was booked solidly every night, but a short run and small theatre meant many people missed out. Very deserving of the six nominations.

Saw a few of these productions. For what it’s worth, my pick in the main categories are:-

Best Original Work: Duncan Ley (When in Rome)
Best Chorus: Little Shop of Horrors
Best Actress in a Musical: Bronwyn Sullivan
Best Actor in a Musical: Matt Balmford
Best Choreographer: Annette Sharpe
Best Director of a Play: Rhys Holden
Best Director of a Musical: Stephen Pike
Best Play: Proof
Best Musical: Rent
Best theatre star not nominated: Dim Ristevski
Best entertainment entrepreneur: Mick Rice
Best production at a crematorium: Carols in the Park
Best theatre eye-lashes: Coralie Wood

Seussical got 9 nominations, so I’m pretty happy! Of course, they won’t win any, it must go to something serious and boring. Frivolity is not art, dahlinks.

If you pulled out the high school awards and interstate interlopers, it’s a much narrower list. Frankly, I’m shocked that one of my favourite productions of this year (Centrepiece Theatre’s production of “Men”) didn’t get a mention at all, but, hey, that’s the awards process for you.

link should work now guys

“Magic Moment Of Theatre” (or however it goes)
Need i say more?
(alright, i was involved in one of those productions, but still!)

Jeez! Looks like just about everybody and anybody who trod the boards in the ACT got a gong…that should brighten up their year.

If you cut and paste the link in the http: it works…not sure why the direct link doesn’t work.

Not just you the link doesn’t work… delete the riotact of the link when you open should get you there

It could be just me – but the link don’t work and I still don’t know what CAT awards are…
