Yesterday’s ACT Budget appears to be a pretty reasonable thing, with some good ideas in it. Of course nothing can please all the rent seekers.
But here’s the reactions we can find so far:
One media release is all the Liberals can manage in reply. The first part appears to have been written by the Property Council, outraged that the beneficiaries of changing lease uses from single houses to vast apartment complexes should have to pay for it.
There’s also some outrage on behalf of motorists over the parking, although the park and ride system would still allow for dropping kids at child care, and actually cut costs for the sainted working families.
A good find however is the $3 million budgeted for the opening ceremony of the arboretum! Holy Hell!
Moving on the ABC brings word that the Transport Workers Union isn’t willing to promise any improvements in ambulance services despite increased funding.
The Greens couldn’t be bothered putting out a media release, but they’re always up for a chat with the ABC, from which we learn the Greens would have preferred more wild spending on their pet projects.
In that article the Liberal Leader Zed Seselja also moans about deficits despite his solitary media release complaining about increased revenues.
The CPSU is also unhappy that the skies aren’t raining gold down upon their members in the ACT Public Service.
Roslyn Dundas from the ACT Council of Social Service wanted more new funding for the community sector, but considering how close they were looking to being gutted 6 months ago a lack of savage cuts is a blessing.
Alan Evans from the NRMA is also grumbling that there isn’t any something for nothing for road users.
ACT Policing has expressed its enthusiasm for dedicated RAPID teams yoinking the unregistered cars off the road, and for more resources to crack down on late night drunks.
The Gungahlin Community Council is also quite keen.
UPDATE: The Liberals have managed a second media release re-affirming their willingess to die in a ditch for the Property Council over change of use charges.
The Greens have also bestirred themselves a day late.
