Over the weekend 24-25 March 2012 around 3500 Mountainbike racers from all over Australia flocked to East Kowen forest to ‘Ride the Kow’. A massive tent city formed in the paddocks on the side of the Kings Highway. 19km of sweet flowing trails greeted the racers as they fought cramps, cold, and tacky soul sucking mud in parts as they raced for fun or glory.

The Mini Mont, put on by the Cycle Education Team, catered for the kids racing with numbers in each category requiring wave starts to space the younguns out on the track. There were big smiles all round as the kids got amongst the dirt. Certainly some up and coming champions amongst them.

Video highlights can be found here:

Links to the race results, podiums and individual lap times can be found posted up on Rotorburn.

It was great to see such a fun atmosphere both on and off the track. Well done to Self Propelled Enterprises for putting on a great event.

It was a great weekend – maybe the best 24 hour ever…
The kids race was great, the drummer and guitarist at night, and the cool relaxed vibe…. and the fresh hot pizza straight after a lap at 2am.

Yepyep – outstanding trails, great vibe and courteous riding by everyone I came into contact with. And trust me, there were a lot of people passing me!

Yeah , the tracks were magnificent ! Paul Cole and the Kowalski Bros + all the track builders need another thanks !
The team I was in came 12th in our category …
Lol, there was only 13 teams …
But we still had an excellent time , and it was great to be circulating at the end …

More than one punder described the drummer as Animal from the Muppets 🙂

At 3am when I first heard the guitarist in Love Child I thought aliens had landed, I was like “WTF is that????”

Then there were the pixies who were cheering me on from under the mushrooms………….

Yah, I rode the Kow & I loved it!!!!!!!!
