The 2013 sitting calendar has just been released but is not yet on the APH website (http://www.aph.gov.au/About_Parliament/Sitting_Calendar). I’ll post the link when it comes available.

There are 19 sitting weeks in total (including Senate Estimates and AEs), commencing 5 February 2013. There will also be an election in there somewhere – the effect of that on the calender depends on when Ma’am decides to visit Shorty’s mum-in-law.

Argentina has just introduced non-compulsory voting for over 16year olds (still compulsory for over 18year olds). Personally, I think 18 is young enough, but of 16year olds were brought into the mix, it might make political parties think about some younger candidates.
Talking of candidates it’s great to see Penny Wong back in the number one spot on the SA ALP Senate ticket after temporarily being dropped to the number two spot by factionalism. Penny has done some hard yards for her party. I once had a discussion with her about Canberra wine and was impressed by her persistence in getting concise. Another SA Senator I admire is the independent Nick Xenephon… This guy seems to have the right motives for every subject he tackles in the Parliament but then I guess he isn’t shackled by party politics.

Strange – should be there – I downloaded it from the APH website early this morning!
