It always easier to not fund something that has never been funded than take away funding.

A builder spends 50,000 on materials and sells the house to a client for 150,000.

An artist spends 500 on materials – paints, stretched canvas, brushes and time – but the sale for 1500 is a little more challenging.

It would seem that it is easy to sell a necessity – a house, yet difficult to sell an experience – a visual or aural experience.

Of course an artistic architectural design fits both categories but in canberra is a rarity.

Yet it stands in contradiction that when you appreciate the sum of your days, you won’t appreciate the house but the experiences that you had in it…

I think its great there is support for the arts, but it also emphasises the true shame that you can’t make a living out of selling amazing experiences and that there are deserving incorporations that didn’t make the list and will struggle this year without the golden egg.

Translation: People are too stupid to know what they really want thus we the learned council must help them.

Hmm, should have lobbied to get the Tharwa Drive upgrade classified as an artistic program. Perhaps then the “Starts in November” sign (conveniently put up before the election) would have been accurate.

give me some of this money…….I will see that it goes towards local motorsport…..where all available funds ought to go………

It’s always the way of it, not just an arts thing.

An organisation has to do something pretty spectacularly ill-advised to lose recurrent government funding, unless there is a massed bloodletting in a particular sector. It always easier to not fund something that has never been funded than take away funding.

I have to say I’m not sure art funding is going to the most productive places.

The KAO process seems to support the favoured regardless of what they do.

And Belconnen Community Services??? Now there’s the true Arts-hole of Canberra

Good heavans, Jigsaw! I wonder if it’s the same Jigsaw that used to run theatre programs out of Reid House. I think they built the Customs Building, or the White Industries things over the top of it. Spent a lot of time there, doing theatre-y stuff.

Maxwell Smart will not be happy about this. Not happy at all.
