221 London circuit

Walking down London Circuit today I noticed the enormous signage now advertising the address of the former ActewAGL building.

I then wondered if I was going mad and it had been there forever. But I’m reliably informed it went up in December.

The building even has its own website covering the history of the building. (and plans for the future)

I can’t believe that I have only just realised that they are numbers. Was much happier when I thought it was taxpayer funded public art…

It’s not a typeface, it’s simply a logotype designed by Frost*, who also designed the signage and wayfinding within the building. CRE8IVE was involved in the design of the marketing collateral for the Molonglo Group/221 London.

Can they get a refund?

They do look like ducks more than numbers.

My niece described something in Civic as being just near the ‘Duck’ building …

I had thought (seeing it from a distance) this was some temporary piping associated with building work. Never realised it was a 221.

It would have been cute would they have renumbered this to be 221b London Circuit… 🙂

Ah yes, the building I walked past many times in the 1970s/’80s & ’90s on the way to the gay beat under the stairs. The beat was shut down quick smart in late 2000 a few months after the Wales Centre became The Waldorf apartments. I hope they’ve done something about the concrete cancer in the former ACTEW building. There was a period in the early 1990s when bits were falling off the building and fences had to be placed around it.

I’m amazed you haven’t noticed it before now, it’s kind of hard to miss. I guess when ACTEW is completely gone if they have a large enough renter they will purchase the naming rights.

Except identifont usually makes suggestions about as useful as Skidbladnir’s typography critique.

You’d be better asking the fontnerds typophile.com/typeid. However, I’d say you’re correct and it is a custom face.

I’ve used identifont many times and only once or twice has it failed to find the font I was after. With something like the font on the building, you’re right. It would probably fail.

Better yet just call CRE8IVE who designed the signage, or Frost who constructed it.

I’m not sure it is a typeface – looks like they just made it up.

If you REALLY want to know, go to http://www.identifont.com

That is a horrible typeface.
Does anyone know what it is called?
