22yr old repeat drink driver crashes out again

ACT Policing will summons a 22-year-old Banks man on drink-driving and negligent driving charges after he collided with the back of a vehicle stopped at a red light in Tuggeranong early on Sunday morning (May 22).

Police were called to the intersection of Drakeford Drive and Athllon Drive in Kambah around 1am yesterday (Sunday, May 22) where a black Falcon utility had collided with the rear of a Mazda 323. The 27-year-old female driver of the Mazda was conveyed to The Canberra Hospital.

A driver who was stationary alongside the Mazda at the traffic lights said the Mazda was rammed from behind by the Falcon and pushed about 50 metres through the intersection. The Mazda was then struck again by the Falcon.

Police took the Falcon driver into custody after he returned a positive result to a roadside screening test for alcohol. He admitted to having his licence suspended as a result of a previous drink-driving conviction. He later returned a high range Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) of 0.243.

Police will charge the man with negligent driving, driving whilst disqualified and high-range drink-driving. He has previous convictions for drink-driving. He will be summonsed to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.

Ummm, I think the article said he was arrested at the scene after he failed his breath test. I imagine that the police have limited powers to detain someone after they sober up like in this case.

Also it was the innocent driver of the other car that went to hospital and hopefully she is feeding normally rather than anally!

To bounce a car 50m through the lights, this wasn’t a simple overshoot, it was a plain didn’t see them, even though there was two cars, both stopped at a (presumably) red light.

indeed, and on this occasion it was the AFP, not a Magistrate or Judge, who chose to let him go home. And charge by summons means he probably is not even on bail.

Clearly the $50 fine last time wasn’t enough. They’ll get tough on him this time. I’d say at least $100. That’ll fix him.

Don’t expect much more than a cancelled license and some weekend detention (read: enjoying the sun while gardening at the local Buddhist temple). Meanwhile, this lady will be enjoying the lifestyle of the rich and famous provided by a Centrelink Disability Support Pension and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.

You’re not used to Canberra style justice are you???
Jail time is only awarded for the 547th offence onwards…
He will be told by someone that he is a very naughty boy and he shouldn’t do it again pretty please.
