Brendan Smyth is turning the knife on the Gallagher government as planned GST money goes missing:
In another blow from the Federal Government’s mid-year budget, the ACT has lost a further $10.3 million in GST revenue, ACT Shadow Treasurer Brendan Smyth said today.
“Since the last ACT Budget in May, this represents a total loss of $24 million in GST revenue,” Mr Smyth said.
Brendan then bangs on a bit about the narrowness of the ACT tax base and how the government should have, in his opinion, done more to diversify the economy over the last decade. Also doom, gloom, and “pressures”.
But he finishes with a strange demand:
“I call on the government to ensure they will not make up for this GST loss with further job cuts and even greater taxes, which would add to the cost of living pressures already felt by so many Canberrans,” Mr Smyth concluded.
So he’s in favour of deficits then?
