The annual Cross-campus Pride Week is almost upon us again (not that I think I’ve managed to go to any part of it before)!

The festivities of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transexual and queer identifying (I know I’ll get an earful if that’s wrong) students of UC and ANU is jointly organised by the two queer societies and they have a whole host of events planned. I’m not entirely sure about who is welcome at these events but I’m fairly certain the opening, which Zed’s-rival-for-dishy-MLA Andrew Barr will be attending, is open to everyone.

The events start with a champagne brunch on Monday 15 May and run through until Friday 19 May. A draft program is below.

Yeah, it’s a pity you’re no good at the clean, just the …

Indi,

I hear Thumper & Mael are in the front running to win the clean and jerk.

Could someone ‘expand’ upon the events scheduled for the Queerlympics?

I know a person who is quite accomplished at Leepfrog.

Thumper, you can’t just offer AD the World Leader position like that: you need to seek approval from the UN first.

Sorry BT – my bad.

thank you Sssanta, I feel warm and accepted

I’m going to contact the mayor and nominate you for the Social Inclusion Committee

It’s alright Mr toad. You are known as part of the dark side.

I have a concept… (is that anticipation I hear…nope its the sound of my PC dieing).. Why don’t the homo’s put on a night called ‘lets all get pissed together and not give a shit who sleeps with who and what sex because when it comes down to it doesn’t matter’… and then in return straighties will put on a night called ‘lets all get pissed together…. some wankers might be red neck homophobes but most of us don’t care so long as we can get pissed and have fun’

Then you will develop a sense of mateship and there will be no lines dividing… the straights are more likely to stick up for the homo’s against red necks because everyone is on the same level…

Tell me I shouldn’t be a world leader…

ps… for the PC I only use the word homo because it sounds funny in that juvenile kind of way to call people homo’s

and where’s the sheep fucking tent!

barking toad10:26 am 05 May 06

yawn again

but I am a tad miffed that shabby left me off the list and just left me as an etc

I don’t have a problem with the rest of you PC weirdos. I just enjoy stirring you unimaginitive bastards up!

PS – I admire VYB’s consistency in the queer debate. Toot on sir.

I too am interested – does anyone know where the whole “Genderfuck” thing came from? Is there a deeper meaning, or was it just a cool-sounding name that someone came up with.

BTW – to whoever answers…skip the PC language, lest there be a tirade of Thumper/Mr Evil/Sssanta/Maelinar/etc ranting about having queer culture thrust upon them. Not to mention an equally earnest rant from Jey/Kerces/probably myself from the opposing front.

I only believe in gay festivals when both chicks are hot.

I can’t hardly (yawn) contain (yawn) my excitement (yawn).

Oh, and how confronting to use the F word over and over!

No – I think it’s more like birdwatching, Sssanta.

Congrats Jey et al. on a great looking program.. If I’d not been out of town for most of it.. I’d be there. Queer week was always a fun time when I was on campus.. Lots of admiration for the folks involved in doing all this organising.

Does queer identifying include heckling said people?

“gay, lesbian, bisexual, transexual and queer identifying”

How about just non-straight? Do they have to pigeon-hole everyone? Doesn’t the community ever get ‘festivaled out’. They seem to be having one every 2nd week.

Talk me through ‘Genderfuck Day’. Just another use of profanity to ‘shock’ the community.

And no, I’m not a homophobe, just amazed at the number of these type of events

yawn

” gay, lesbian, bisexual, transexual and queer identifying (I know I’ll get an earful if that’s wrong)”
you forgot ‘intersex’ and we generally say ‘otherwise queer identifying’ but you got it more right than a helluva lot of ppl 😀

“I’m not entirely sure about who is welcome at these events”
I would say all queer and queer friendly ppl.
Some of the events, the ones held in licensed venues, will be 18+ only though.
