Andrew Barr has annouced the 2011 National Dragon Boat Championships are coming to town at the end of March.

The 2011 National Dragon Boat Championships is expected to attract more than 2,600 participants from all over the country and New Zealand for a week of competition and social activity.

This will be good for the sport, good for locals who want to take in some top-class sporting action and good for our local tourism operators and the 16,000 Canberrans they employ.

Lake Burley Griffin is the perfect location to host such an event, with the course positioned to showcase the beautiful backdrop of central basin.

Apparently there’s also a bid on to get the dragon boat world championships here in Canberra.
