2K Australia is dead, long live 2K Marin

Computer games are being increasingly recognised as a major new industry of the future, and Canberra has a bigger presence than it does in well, pretty much any other global industry.

So a snippet in Game Daily is worth a look. It seems even the game media’s been blindsided by changes at Canberra’s 2K studio which had been known as 2K Australia, but is now paired with the California studio as 2K Marin.

The local lads are, we learn, hard at work on a first-person shooter of the venerable X-COM.

Shame they are not using the 2K Australia name anymore.
I wish the local boys all the success. Lets hope that the local government is supporting them to ensure they dont eventually leave Canberra.

XCOM was successful because it was a 3rd person turn based game.
The only people that will recognise the name will also know that so turning it into yet another yumcha FPS is pointless compared to the battlefield and modern warfare juggernauts.

Idiots

PS I am hanging for xcom port to Ipad, its a perfect platform for it

Hehehe, I got them while they were still ‘abandonware’.

On the plus side, Steam has X-Com cheap, so you can always relive the joy of the originals.

What the hell were they thinking?

“Lets make yet another FPS but we’ll slap the name of a popular series we own the rights to in a completely different genre so it has brand recognition”

Oh, and show em what Aussies can do etc so on and so forth /silly nation pride etc.
