Police have caught 351 drivers speeding in the second week (February 7 to February 13) of ACT Policing’s month long campaign targeting speeding motorists. This figure includes speeding drivers in school zones.

A 32-year-old Palmerston man, on a probationary licence, was caught travelling 134km/h in an 80km/h zone along the GDE near Aranda on Friday night. He was issued with a $1,811 fine and his licence will be suspended.

On Saturday night a 26-year-old from Dunlop was fined $1811 and lost six (6) demerit points after being caught on the Monaro Highway in Fyshwick travelling at 131km/h in an 80km/h zone.

The highest speed detected was 73km/h over the sign posted speed limit. The driver was caught travelling at 113km/h along the Barton Highway in the 40km/h roadworks zone.

Superintendent Mark Colbran said that a targeted operation focusing on speeding drivers in school zones will be conducted later this week.

“ACT Policing will be conducting an intensive school zone targeting operation on Wednesday and Thursday this week, so people have been warned. If you speed in a 40km/h school zone, you will get caught,” he said.

In the same period for last year (February 8 to 14, 2010), 125 drivers were caught speeding.

Good. Sucked in to everyone who was caught.

” … travelling at 131km/h in an 80km/h zone”

I would have tried “Sorry, Constable. One of the kids must have set the speedo to MPH”

I must be driving on the wrong roads and at the wrong time of day. I’ve only seen one mobile camera since Christmas. Not that it worries me anyway, there’s enough people driving 10km/h below the limit in the right hand lane whilst talking on their mobile that I can barely get to a ticketable pace!

When will people learn? February you don’t speed because it is tailgating month. Next months you can resume speeding and stop whatever is next month’s flavour.

I would assume it doesn’t include cameras as the OP mentions ‘Police have caught …’

Oh how it warms the heart to see so many idiots parting ways with their money and/or licence.

Yeah, so many doing 73k over the speed limit, ay?

Stanhope must be rolling in it now, or licking his lips with each new payout he gets.

Does this 351 include the normal speed cameras, or is that another number on top?

Oh how it warms the heart to see so many idiots parting ways with their money and/or licence.
