The patronising and paternalistic NCA has listened [Ed- And put out a media release

They will not proceed with the 8 storey building north of Albert Hall (to balance the library FFS!) and will not allow commerical (ie hotel uses) in the precinct.

People Power at work.

Now to get the pollies to see that getting rid of Flynn Drive (ah the days of watching the V8 super cars doing the burn under Commonwealth Ave Bridge!) is a BAD idea.

Well, I for one am glad they are ensuring it stays public and non-commercial. The whole thing was a stupid idea. I wish the ACT Govt would listen to its electors in this way. Maybe we would still have Griffith library if they did, and would stop spending money on stupid ‘world firsts’ but prioritise council things like roads, mowing, maintenance, etc.

Great. Canberra is really short of useless and not very attractive grassland so it’s wonderful that this particular lawn will be maintained in its current state.

Sigh – have we really all fallen for this classic ambit bargaining proposal? They never intended to have that building. They have achieved EXACTLY what they set out to have. It’s still a bad proposal – just not as scarily bad as they pretended.

Happy to hear that!
