Would you like to experience the adrenaline rush that comes from jumping out of a plane at 15,000 feet and free-falling towards earth at over 200 kilometres per hour?

You don’t have to leave Canberra to satisfy your inner thrill seeker. We spoke to the team at Canberra’s only tandem skydiving company, Skydive Oz Canberra, to find out why the nation’s capital is the perfect location for your first tandem skydive.

1. See Canberra from a new perspective
You know what Lake Burley Griffin, Parliament House and the Snowy Mountains look like from the ground, but from thousands of metres in the air you’ll see your favourite landmarks in a brand new light. Depending on your suburb, Skydive Oz Canberra’s pilots can even fly over your house during the ascent – an experience difficult to replicate anywhere else in the world.

2. Bring your friends and family to watch you land
Skydive Oz Canberra operates from the Royal Australian Mint Oval in Deakin, which is just eight minutes from the city. Make a day out of the experience and invite your less adventurous friends and family to cheer you on as you land. Maybe you’ll convince them to skydive with you on your next jump!

3. You don’t have to travel interstate to get your adrenaline fix
For some people, not having to travel interstate to go skydiving means saving money on transport and accommodation. For others, it means living close enough to a skydiving meeting point that they don’t have time to talk themselves out of jumping on their way to the venue.

If you choose to skydive in Canberra, you’ll meet the Skydive Oz Canberra team at Deakin Oval for a short induction. After the induction you’ll catch the Skydive Oz bus to Canberra Airport where you board the plane and climb to altitude for 15-20 minutes. When you jump, you’ll experience 60 seconds of total free-fall, with another five minutes under the canopy. You’ll have a grin that will last for days, without the hassle of travelling interstate.

4. Birthday presents, buck’s parties and hen’s nights sorted
What better way to celebrate a milestone birthday or event than by surprising a (thrill-seeking) loved one with a tandem skydiving gift voucher? At just $349, it’s cheaper than a weekend away and is guaranteed to be more memorable than any material gift. For the right group of friends, skydiving can also be a great group activity for buck’s parties, hen’s nights and corporate events.

5. Do a tandem jump before taking a learn to skydive course
Does tandem skydiving seem too tame? For the ultra brave, Skydive Oz also offers a week-long learn to skydive course on the South Coast. At the end of the course, you’ll receive a skydiving licence and have the opportunity to skydive completely unassisted.

We gave my son his first jump as a birthday present. And it was the best present he ever had.

He was so pleased with himself for having done it that I think he updated his Facebook status before he landed.

Here’s a clip of skydiving clip as part of the JDRF (Type 1 Diabetes) Jump For A Cure fundraiser featuring SkydiveOz.
