69 more beds at Calvary hospital? (stop sniggering at the back there) Also a birth centre for the consequences of sexytime

Katy Gallagher has promised a racy number of new hospital beds if she’s re-elected.

If re-elected, ACT Labor will invest in 69 more beds, more than 100 doctors and nurses and new services at Calvary Public Hospital.

Our commitment will help meet the demand for public hospital services in the rapidly growing suburbs in our cities north.

It means we will deliver new types of health care never before offered in the north, and extend existing services.

UPDATE 11/09/12 10:45: There’s also the promise of a birth centre:

That’s why, if re-elected, ACT Labor will provide $850,000 for a Birth Centre at Calvary Public Hospital for women living in Canberra’s north.

It will mean for the first time, women on the north side can access midwifery led care in state-of-the-art birthing facilities closer to home.

We will also review birth projections, particularly for Canberra’s northern suburbs to inform future expansions to maternity services.

“It means we will deliver new types of health care never before offered in the north”

So why has not been offered before?

Oh that’s right, you were too busy screwing the figures elsewhere to worry about North Canberra.

Personally I think it is ideal to have birthing centres co-located with hospitals. Allows the mother (and father and baby) every chance to have as ‘natural’ a birth experience as they want, with all the advantages of modern medicine minutes away if it is needed. Best of both worlds.

Of course, Calvary isn’t a public hospital so I don’t know how that fits with my view.

The Greens Amanda Bresnan wants a stand alone birth centre:

support this 100 per cent.

Wouldnt need birthing facilities if its only 69

one thing leads to another

Stand alone birth centre sounds a bit drop it in the corner and soldier on…

Personally I think there should be more surgery led birth centres. Because pain hurts, but anaesthetic makes it better.

Please don’t bother using the word ‘natural’ (-:

Funny how this gets trotted out just days after the stories in the Crimes on Sunday that areas of the new Womens and Childrens Hospital are already overflowing just weeks after opening http://www.canberratimes.com.au/opinion/editorial/planning-for-new-hospital-a-cause-for-concern-20120908-25l5n.html

Lets hope that this allows for real future growth rather than just the bullsh*t excuses that were the kneejerk reactions on the weekend

Well at least she is up front in promoting that she will continue to f**k us both ways..
