Just in from our friends at the ABC:

7.30 ACT for Friday March 9th

1. Murder Decade
Kathryn Grosvenor disappeared 10 years ago. Six days later, her body was found in the Lake. Neither the police nor her parents have given up hope that the crime will be solved.
Perhaps someone, watching the program or reading the RiotACT, knows what happened. Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.

2. Cotter Costs
ACTEW Corp’s Managing Director, Mark Sullivan, talks to Ross Solly about the rising costs of the Cotter Dam expansion – and reveals a new strategy.

3. The Della Morte Sisters
The fabulous animated world of three sisters – created by Marissa Martin and her mum. They’ve won a pitching competition to take the film to Cannes.

4. Father and Son
Shortlisted at Tropfest, students and staff at CIT have made a film on a phone.

5. Electric Canvas
The National Institutions all dressed up and looking fancy at night.

Father and Son, by Canberra’s Christian Doran, who won “Lights, Canberra, Action!” on Friday night, with his movie “Winning the Fox Hunt”, is a nice piece of local production.

Actually, a number of films in LCA this year were of a very high standard! It was a great event…

Unlike Chris Uhlmann, you are in no doubt about Emma Albericis political leanings.

My three year old son could have done a job on the excuse we have for a Treasurer right now It seemd like a good job as he is totally insane – and that came across well. Different story if you saw Emma batting her eyelids at Malcolm Turnbull last night.

Chris Uhllman in my opinion asks the right questions and doesn’t care what side of politics the guest is from.

Five stories? Didn’t it use to be three?

Better than someone like Emma Alberici who has recently taken on Lateline or Virginai Trioli who hosted it for a while, who ARE meant to providing hard-hitting interiews. All they seem to do is simper obligingly at their male guests.

I thought Emma Alberici is doing a great job – she made the Ruski foreign minister sweat it, literally.
Obviously she’s more accustom to filing reports than driving a presentation live, but that will get better. Certainly she edges out Chris Uhlmann, who happens to be another ABC Canberra alumni.

To be fair, that program is 30 minutes long, so to expect a hard hitting interview for one of five stories coered in a max of about 8 minutes is a bit unrealistic. I don’t think his interviews are too bad. I didn’t see that particular story but it’s a not a good thing when news reports/interviews leave you muttering questions at the screen. Reporting is turning into infotainment, with an emphasis on the tainment and an increasing lack of the info. Been waiting to get that off my chest! ABC is still better than the commercial networks but not what it used to be.

Ross Solly doing his best impression of a chimp imitating a hard hitting journalist. Really time for the ABC to dump him.

Blimey. I hear that Ross Solly only ever talks nicely about you!

Okay to be more specific, whether on radio or TV, he never appears to do any research or even know the topic he’s asking about. He asks very limited, very shallow questions that gain no insight.

He kept going on about going over the dam’s budget and how the new dam was bad value, which even over budget is a silly suggestion compared to the other options explored. No surprise though since he had trouble confusing millions and billions of dollars.
Meanwhile he never asked how they missed a giant fault under the site, or how they managed to end up with a shortage of concrete? Didn’t ask about why they didn’t move equipment off the site sooner and why so much was left? Didn’t ask how much equipment was gone and what steps were being taken to recover it from the river downstream?
