They used taps not cans.

Ahh, so 375mL+head.

Could be worse, you could have had to go to work instead.

The bit that shocks me is Chips $5 – I assumed they meant hot, and figured this is the norm, but the small print seems to say: “Smiths Original, Salt and Vinegar, BBQ, Twisties, Dortitos” – I’d pay between $2-$3 for 175-200gm in the supermarket, but I’m guessing these would have been 50-100gm packets….

According to the Canberra Times this morning the owners of those cars received warnings in those envelopes not fines.

They used taps not cans.

They stopped serving full strength beer at 1500hrs.

The parking tickets were apparently only warnings in yellow envelopes (for my friend at least).

The RSL bistro was closed for lunch 🙁

There’s a hell of a market, at events like this, for the South African speciality of alcohol sachets or, as the Saffas call them, tot-packs. They’re a 25ml shot of vodka, scotch, gin, etc in a plastic sachet. Very easy to hide.

While they wanted $3 for a bottle of water, the Bar behind the Hawke Stand (which was the only one I went to, as it was the closest to my seat) had free water at the end of the bar. You had to pour it yourself, but they had cups there as well.

I did not even have to buy anything else to get the free water.

And as for the food prices there, I took some cold chicken, bread rolls, water and fruit. The security people checked our bags, and asked if we would share some chicken with them. We said “yep fine, find us at lunch time”. They did not take us up on our offer.

Considering there isn’t any long stay parking in a 2 km radius of Manuka except the Coles underground and being a working day the obvious spots were taken up by the regular public servants and store owners, I’m not surprised at everyone ending up on the nature strips. I was going to go, but thankfully I had to work instead of paying nearly $100 for my family to go and spend the day getting wet. We’ll just catch it on TV tonight, for free. Condolences to those who got stung by the evil grass fairy, I hope he/she gets their just deserts one day, when car windscreen wipers are electrified. [Disclaimer – Do not electrify your car windscreens as this may result in serious injury or death.]

I also thought the parking tickets for cars along the centre median of Canberra Avenue a very bad effort on someone’s part – hardly disrupting things – no venue parking so slog punters organising themselves effectivly,

I noticed that this afternoon too. Dozens & dozens of cars were there & they all had tickets. Would be interested to know how much the fine was. A very profitable day for ACT Revenue.

Would be interested to know if they are actually using taps and giving you 425ml, or just dumping 375ml cans into 425ml plastic cups.

opening cans in to pastic cups!!

Important to organise a friend on the other side of the fence, with a rope (and maybe a basket).

Seriously, why do we put up with his price gouging? If they are worried about rampant drunken-ness, they could check bags as they do and ensure not too much alcohol is going in. But they are not really worried about his, they want everyone to get rampantly drunk at $7 a go.

did we lose yet?

ahhh, the strange parallel universe of pricing that exists in sporting venues (or indeed anywhere with a captive audience).

$7 VB’s plus the cost of a parking ticket for parking out on the road verge. Nice day at the cricket spoilt by a parking fine. Come on, Its just one day out of the year Stanhope!

I’m not a beer snob by any means, but paying any amount of money for VB is just something I would only do in an emergency.

$4 for soft drink. $3 for water? Could get pricey if you’re taking the family out.

At least they have full strength at Manuka, a lot of other cricket grounds only sell mid strength for the same price.

Cider it is then!

five bucks for a pie! whats it made of wagyu ?

Ripping off captive audiences (eg sporting events, theme parks, concerts, etc) is a very Australian thing to do. It’s part of the reason why Australia is now being considered more and more an ‘expensive’ country.

Dont drink………..Its also for 425ml, not 375ml so you are getting more. Why do people have to get pissed at these events?

How about water for $3.00?

Or take it with you like I do.

It’s not a stubbie…it’s 425ml…if that’s your poison, suck it up and pay!

That’s ridiculous. I wouldn’t touch that swill for less than $15.

Sick and wrong.
