Telegraph has the following: Body in Qbn river

I was wondering why the SES were paddling up the creek yesterday.

I used to play footy for the Royal, still got me t-shirt somewhere too. We challenged the Royal at Bungendore to a match, and forgot that half the Raiders lived out there. ooops. We got done (Early 1980s).

I like how this thread has been weighed down by fools from both sides of the border, attempting to justify their existence in some way or another. It’s all just a big wonderfully stereo typed world, isn’t it. Have to laugh though.

Thanks for noticing Jazz, but don’t imply that it’s me doing all the tagline recommendations. There have been several threads over the past year or so where there has practically been a consensus (this doesn’t happen often on RA) that somebody’s post should be up there…

Anyway, looking forward to a change.

Maybe we should have some Queanbeyan-related posts up there…

Thumper, if I understood your comment I’d have ta give ya a smack in the mouth 😉

Anyway getting back to the post….. Police are treating the death as suspicious. The dead man was last seen at the Royal hotel, Monaro street at 3am on sat.
He apparently was a maintenance worker at the hotel.

AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! THE PLOT THICKENS……………..

meconium,

Yes we are listening.

Just because you nominate a tagline doesnt mean we’re going to use it. Many are funny in context but dont really mean much when you see them a year later.

Updating taglines are also pretty low on our priority radar at the moment, but we have done a review recently and will be adding a bunch more in and removing some of the older ones.

Ahh Canberra, gateway to Queanbeyan.

One thing you have to give give Queanbeyan is that it’s a lot more interesting and fun than Canberra, which is kinda sterile…

Hey Cameron and thetruth, you’re both picketers, how about we picket Jazz or Kramer or someone to actually pay attention to our calls for “tagline”?

I think gratuitous slamming of Queanbeyan, while undeniably funny, is somewhat inappropriate for the front page of RA, especially when beside, the site claims to be “right of reply”.

But someone said something really appropriate and true about this site the other day, and there was a call for it to be used as a tagline, and nobody paid attention. This has happened heaps of times too.

Maybe we should just ask johnboy to do it – I don’t think any taglines have been added or removed since his time at the helm anyway.

Anyone agree with me? Mods, are you listening?

Hmmm… just finished reading the postings to the end, and I’m not so impressed any more.

What’s with everyone posting in the wrong thread all the time. I CAN’T STAND ALL OF YOU

am i too late to get in on this joke? if so, then I’ll tell you all something you may not know about Queanbeyan from my days as a journalist cadet there….

THE FONT’S DIFFERENT!

/laughs proudly at own joke, despite not being able to get the html right so the font actually changed in the post

How do you reckon it’d go down as a tagline? 😉

roflmfao this thread is funny

but I still can’t stop laughing about heinous’ first post.

top marks!!

“Yes, and Australia’s pretentious, self absorbed and chronic under-achievers have somewhere to live. CANBERRA.”

you forgot pedophilic police officers…..

“Yes, and Australia’s pretentious, self absorbed and chronic under-achievers have somewhere to live. CANBERRA.”

Employed somewhere – Canberra is one big sheltered workshop.

I was sewing up my black pants tonight with white cotton,

bugger, wrong thread….

I prefer Captains flat myself as the water tastes good and the mine is pleasing to the eye.

I kept going because you didn’t defend your position, and still haven’t. Perhaps you can’t. I can’t stand people who make a rubbish statement that they can’t backup and then resort to stupidity to try and dismiss that which exposed said rubbish statement. I can, however, stand it when such people move out of a city that is superior in every way to the one they intend to move to.

Either that or I was baiting you. Boredom does that.

Just don’t stand on the toilet seat.

Oh shit, wrong thread…

I can’t STAND people who tell me what I can and can’t STAND for.

I’m taking a STAND, and going to bed. I shall not be STAND’ing in bed.

CanberraResident9:37 pm 31 Mar 08

oh, and bbbbbbzzzzzzzzzzz (whack !@#$%^& SPLAT!!!!!!) … got the little bugger.

CanberraResident9:36 pm 31 Mar 08

Cameron, did you say something or was that the sound of a mosquito farting? You’ve gone a little overboard with your defensive stance on my comment above; just how many times do you need to have a go at me because I expressed an opinion which you didn’t agree with. LET it gooooo! Enough already!

skaboy12 my little champion – I agree. Queanbeyan rocks. When I manage to sell my palace here in the ACT, I’m gonna buy one of those mansions on the hill at the back of Karabar, or perhaps out near Wickerslack Lane? Or the back of the Queanbeyan golf course – BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! Some Canberra people are so ill-informed.

I think I need to take a seat.

I just CAN’T STAND anymore.

Oh oh CanberraResident, look at what skaboy12 went and did. Can you stand people who put down Canberra?

The funny thing is I have more money than anyone I know who lives in the ACT, mainly because I don’t pay stupid rent prices and didn’t pay $600k for a 2 bedroom apartment in the Ghetto (belco).

My taxes are lower, my rego is cheaper and I can modify my car more.

Plus the people in QBN don’t have their heads stuck in their asses, andd can have a conversation with telling people how good they are. We have more freindly and approachable people than anywhere in the ACT. I didn’t realise that until I started to work out here rather than in the ACT. Now most my problem customers come over from the ACT for Thursday late night shopping and think that their poop don’t smell, cause they live in Canberra.

BTW, I saw WIN news tonight – Jessica NotSoGood reads the news as if she’s reciting her mothers best pudding recipe.

Just imagine if QBN had it’s own TV channel with it’s own news reader. While CBR has Jessica Goody Two Shoes, QBN would have some derro homeless woman wearing second hand cloths which she picked up from the local Vinnies shop. She would be continually sniffing and rubbing her nose from excessive crack usage.

that their not there ….. geez

It is not a well known fact that Australia practised geographic Apartheid by denying residents of Queanbeyan the right to work in Canberra. This was because Canberra sucked sooo much that they feared that everyone would live in Queanbeyan and commute and therefore stunt the development of Canberra.

They also had to bribe people with very low interest loans (2%) to buy houses in Canberra.

This had a very deterimental impact on Queanbeyan’s development both socially and economically. Like most things public servant had a vested interest in keeping these arrangements in place well after they were necessary. Then Canberra stole there water and sold it back, put the flight path over perfectly good land, made the road links suck and congest the Kings Hwy.

And then call it struggle town………

Having lived not too far from the site of the search its totally not uncommon to hear what sounds like gunshots at night, followed by squawking birds. I’d say at least once a fortnight on average really, so little wonder no one noticed.

Believe the police are door knocking tonight – bit of a mystery it seems.

Yeah, and I suppose no bodies have ever been found in Lake Burley Griffin?
Plenty have been found in LBG – after all, it’s only a short drive from Queanbeyan…

“Yeah, and I suppose no bodies have ever been found in Lake Burley Griffin?”

Funnily enough there were plenty of bodies in 1974 and they all originated in QBN

Quick correction: “thought that I’d care” should read “not that I’d care”.

Which is fortunate, as I didn’t do that (thought that I’d care if you couldn’t stand me). I simply pointed out that it is a useless thing to care about. Any self respecting QBN resident quite rightly doesn’t give two sh*ts about what any Canberra Resident thinks about their town.

If there was a similar thread here about a body turning up anywhere in Canberra, there would be similar comments. Picture: Body found in Lake Tuggeranong. Enter all the Tuggers bashers. Same if it is any lake in Canberra.

Cameron, I can’t STAND people who tell me what I can and cannot STAND.

Adza – what worries me is the people catching cod at the exact same spot the tobacconist lady went missing all those years ago … Mrs P … a … v … i … ???

BTW, I saw WIN news tonight – Jessica NotSoGood reads the news as if she’s reciting her mothers best pudding recipe.

Be a little bit diplomatic heinous! It could easily be a friend or relative of mine or even yourself as I assume you travel over the border sometimes.
My wife and I often walk across that bridge whilst going to count the roos on the golf course.
Surprised the media took so long to become aware.

Pfft there’s been a tonne more murders and dead bodies turn up in Canberra than in Queanbeyan!!

So … who’s gonnago fishing in the river the next few days?

CanberraResident said :

The rest of Australia puts Canberra down. Canberra puts Queanbeyan down. Queanbeyan puts… I dunno, Bungendore down?

Useless issue to not STAND people over.

Just on WIN news – a fight in a nearby pub and blood all over the footbridge triggered the body hunt.

This isn’t on ABC Online, but there are unconfirmed reports of gunshots being heard on Friday night or Saturday morning. Police must have known there was a shooting or something because they were actively looking for a body on Saturday morning in the river.

Doesn’t look like they’re saying that it was suspicious at this stage though…maybe they have a suspect in mind.

Dead body in river, that is soooo Queanbeyan.
