[Chris rants about road rules and forgets to put in a headline]

This shows the extremely selective approach that ACT policing takes to traffic enforcement. Speed cameras send a powerful message to everyone that speeding is evil; the fact that virtually no other enforcement takes place sends a clear message that all other ingringements are OK.

The use of driving/fog lights at inappropriate times is, in my view, at least if not more dangerous as going 5-10kms over the limit, yet this illegal activity is never enforced. It’s made worse by the fact that often the lights are fitted to 4WDs and aim straight into other drivers’ eyes. As with many headlights, they are often badly aligned, again creating dangerous glare.

It’s good to see this raised, but until “fog light cameras” are installed, don’t expect any action real soon. Likewise, we need “no-indicator cameras”, “bad lane swapping cameras”, “slow drivers holding up traffic cameras”, etc. Only then will genuine road safety messages be transmitted.

In the meantime, just remember – “speeding is evil, everything else is OK” in Canberra.

oohhhh… I hate those upper middle class bastards!

After reading this yestrday, I couldn’t understand why everyone thought that people with their fog lights on was an issue. I couldn’t recall many people driving around with them on.
But last night I was driving around would you believe that in 20 minutes I saw 22 people driving around with their bloody fog lights on and they were mostly upper middle class cars.

Wait sorry, I’m working my way down the front page after a rather long day and just found the post this relates to. But it did still sound like half a thought. Sorry.

I’m confused…did this start “This shows the extremely selective approach that ACT policing takes to traffic enforcement.”?
Was that halfway through your thoguht Chris?

Funny you should mention traffic.

I unreservedly apologise to the guy in the dark purple Barina I cut off on William Hovel Drive this morning. I checked but your car was a dark colour, I didn’t see it in the shade of the cutting and I was rushing, obviously. Still, no harm done eh?

Here’s hoping he isn’t reserving some intent to twat me one. It would be a poor choice.

They’re xenon headlights. You usually only find them on expensive European cars.

What’s worse are those headlights that are almost blue looking. Catch them out more in doof doof territory up in Sydney but I still spot on or two without fail on a trip home from work.

suspected as much.

My apologies for lack of a headline – this was supposed to go in as a comment under a previous post.

An ex boyfriend of mine was a bit of a cockwit who got around at all times with his stupid fog lights on. He never, ever got booked in the ACT for this. And he deserved it for driving a Renault. Anyway, on a trip to Sydney one day he got pulled over on the Hume Highway by some militant NSW cops and booked for using them.

He claimed he didn’t think it was illegal, and thought it made him a BETTER driver. Like I said, he was a cockwit.

sounds like 1984 to me…

Mushrooms have sprouted with the recent rains methinks…
