[Ed. The survey is now closed. thanks to all those who took the time to provide comments.]

The keen eyed regulars amongst you will have no doubt noticed that RiotACT is running a site survey, but what is not immediately apparent is the reason why. Some weeks ago we are RiotACT central threw our hat in the ring to be guinea pigs for the University of Canberra 3rd year marketing students as a potential case study.

Fortunately, or perhaps unfortunately depending on your point of view we had one brave soul keen to take on the challenge of analysing RiotACT and your views of it.

Over the past few weeks we’ve been working with them to create a survey as part of an assessable piece of work in analysing a real business. With that in mind we’d encourage all of our readership, registered or otherwise to participate if you have the time. We’ve deliberately kept it very short as we know how much you all love filling out long surveys. It will be online for the next few weeks and we’d love to hear your opinions.

Firefox on Leopard, worked fine

glad it wasn’t too long 🙂

I’m not tracking it at the moment. If Kramer ever let me run some knocked up sql scripts against our server i could probably work it out.

Jazz, Do you know how many different people comment per week? Sounds like there are a lot of people who come regularly but don’t comment…

possibly tap,

The 30,000 are unique IP addresses that hit this site every month. some of those will be people using it at work and at home counting as two, others will be a whole bunch of readers coming through a single proxy server and counting as one user. The actual number of visits a week is approaching 100,000 and 200,000+ page impressions.

Caf, Yeah i will post the results if i can get them in a format that works, we’re doing this in parallel to an offline survey as well.

Thanks to all those who have taken part in the survey, and particularly those who have provided some additional comments. For the most part they’ve been really insightful.

I saw that the actual site survey (the where are you from, opinion on protest, favourite sport) that not too many people voted. Is there a chance that instead of there being 30,000 visitors a week it is 200 people visiting 150 times per week?

Will you post the results here?

Thank you.

Done (Firefox, OS 10.4.x)

But, while we’re at it … is it just me or have the little previous page links from the bottom of the home page been lost somewhere?

But, while we’re at it … is it just me or have the little previous page links from the bottom of the home page been lost somewhere? I was going to point them out to someone who asked in an another post how to get to old posts that have dropped off the front page???

I need to do the survey again and mark the navigation question a bit harder. 😉

oops, ‘quite a popular survey TOOL …’

My new Avant browser keeps lagging when I use the delete button, sorry.

CanberraResident5:31 pm 27 Apr 08

Done. No problem, technical or otherwise.

SurveyMonkey is becoming quite a popular survey. I’ve seen it used elsewhere in recent times.

I did it Jazz. Thanks for pointing it out. 🙂

“presenting results, regardless of their validity, in a form that meets a client need” – whaaaat? Take off another 20 per cent!

lol, i use safari on a mac as well so its not that. In this instance consider it admin error – just to prove that we aren’t infallible.

We’re using a freebie software called surveymonkey which unfortunately limits the survey to 10 questions and 100 responses. Its quite good, but i’ve got to create new survey’s at every 100 iterations.

i wasn’t able to complete it as the ‘list relevance to riotact’ with multiple questions kept erasing the previous tick in the same ‘good’ ok’ etc column but wanted me to answer all the questions.

i use safari on a mac – is that a problem? [geez, opening up comments here, in’t i!]

I think you are missing the point of the exercise I-filed. The survey isn’t about the results. It is an exercise in working to a client brief and presenting results, regardless of their validity, in a form that meets a client need.

As RiotACT is subject of the survey, i’m obviously somewhat interested in the results. But I happen to know that in this case that multiple submissions are unlikely to skew the end result because the software we’re using already accounts for that.

Needs to be specific to the survey, sorry, Jazz, if conducted by UC students, to fulfil those requirements. There’s nothing on the survey page. For example, how are they checking to avoid/remove/discount multiple submissions?

I-filed said :

Take 20 per cent of the mark already for not fulfiling requirement to inform audience about how their privacy is to be protected!

Perhaps you should look at the privacy policy and terms and conditions of use at the bottom of the page :). you can also find links to these in the ‘About’ link.

I only saw this survey from the article posted! I think my computer sees them as ads and nukes them. anyway, I did the survey.

all sorted. 🙂

Johnathon, I think we’ve all had quite enough study for now.

Another survey…
Which of the RA administrators is attempting to get their post graduate degree?

Felix the Cat8:51 pm 24 Apr 08

I tried to do the questionaire but it wouldn’t let me submit it when I answered other for “where did you hear about RA”. It kept wanting me to select another option so I gave up.

Given the apparent reticence of RA’ers to contribute to the ‘Where are you located?’ and ‘the torch relay’ questionaires, I hold out little hope that the many thousands of RA’ers will rise to the occasion and contribute in significant numbers to provide valid results.
