Tuggeranong Community Arts (TCA) is seeking women from Canberra’s Islamic community to be part of a very special arts and cultural project to be held on Sundays (10.30am-4.30pm) over 4 weeks in from 12 October to 2 November at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre media studio.

“The Digital Storytelling workshop will be a great opportunity for women from Canberra’s diverse Islamic community to celebrate, embrace and express their rich cultural heritage” says Eulea Kiraly, TCA’s Community Arts Officer.

The workshop will also encourage women from a range of backgrounds and experiences to develop and share their stories with other members of the group in a supportive and creative environment.

Digital Storytelling is a powerful form of personal expression which allows participants to tell their stories to the broader community, as well as exploring their own creativity. Each storyteller’s unique stories and photographs are captured with digital media and compiled using computers, cameras and scanners. They will be guided in the process and learn how to develop a story, record a personal voiceover and learn basic photo manipulation and film editing tools. The product will be a 3-4 minute digital story about a significant moment in their lives. Stories will have a premiere screening at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre on 9 December.

The workshop is free to the selected participants, thanks to the support of the Australia Council of the Arts and the Canberra Islamic Centre. “No prior experience is necessary, though basic computer skills are handy,” explains Kiraly. For further information or to be considered for this project, please contact:

Workshop Facilitator Lauren Williams (0409 165 643) or TCA Community Arts Officer Eulea Kiraly (6293 1443).

Yesterday i watched ‘Life of Brian’ for the umpteenth time. Especially the scene with the women (played by men) passing themselves off as men, to get into the public stoning.

So- do you think that I could become a digital storyteller if i did the head to toe covering with the full eye coverage and gloves, a squeaky voice and a few Arabic phrases?

Oh yeah mine was a “digital storytelling project” as well…

Hahahhahahahahahahaha

I placed an ad like that once…in the personals…. gotta warn you though I only got five otherwise it would have been the greatest awakening the saudis had ever seen

Hahhahaaha

I can never respect any religion especially one that turns women into shadows.
