Poster cleanup

One of the things that always pissed me off about elections was the propensity for candidates (particularly failed ones) to just leave all their posters around the landscape. The Labor party have been a real help in this regard (taking most of mine down even before the poll was held), and I think I have got them all now. However, if you do see one, e mail me with the location, mpcrowther@gmail.com and I will try and ensure it is gone before the weekend is over.

This includes any you may see disgarded on bike paths, in canals etc.

Cheers.

[ED: Someone appears to have been helping the Liberals already, this picture is of the back gates of the Baker Gardens polling place in Ainslie. I’m not trying to pick on the Liberals, they’re just the ones who were breaking the rules in my experience yesterday]

Paging Mike Hettinger… please return to the string of Make It Mike! signs at the State Circle turnoff on Adelaide Avenue… otherwise they will be towed.

…and crushed into a cube…

I thought Mary Porter’s “thank you” messages was a nice touch. I am sure she will have them taken down in due time.

Uhhh, when is due time then? The election was over 3 days ago.

That would be 6pm the day BEFORE the election.

Mary Porter should consider taking her political signs down along Ginnenderra Drive. While the new “thank you” sign additions have recently been made, I think it appropriate to take them down. The election is over, I like many other people are keen to just get on with it now.

I told a fib above, some of the bunting was on the church fencing when I voted on Saturday morning, but the yellow and blue signs weren’t up. Either way, they’re still there (links to pics below). I also saw the Parish Priest carrying an election sign away from the church today, I think it was one of the Labor ones. Also appears to be a sign on the ground near the primary school entry also.

Norvan’s authoritarian views

I missed those. What were they?

Should be the law here too, IMO.

I’m going to go out on a limb and make the claim that Norvan’s authoritarian views that he foolishly let out of the bag in the final days of the campaign completely destroyed his candidacy.

…jakez has no need for evidence.

In plain terms, Norvan may need a few days to get sober, and a few more to walk outside, and then a bit longer to grow out of doing it under cover of darkness.

According to Elections ACT, Norvan was the most popular CAP candidate in Molonglo, pulling 3.6 times the first-preference votes of his nearest peer.
With 546 first preference votes, he is only 14% more popular than the Australian Motorists Party’s finest candidate, but as an individual, he is less than a quarter as popular as the AMP as a whole.

Andrew Barr, the man who got to wear the stylish albatross of School Closures, is personally nine times more popular than Norvan.
Frank Pangallo, who routinely let Canberrans swim in a lake of their neighbour’s excrement, was six times more popular than Norvan.

If you see Norvan around town, for the love of god, buy him a drink.

Oddly enough, when I voted on Saturday morning, around 10am, there was little advertising material of any persuasion around the polling place closest to me (Scout Hall, Hovea St, O’Connor). But after going out for the day and coming home just as polls were closing I noticed there was quite a lot of Liberal material remaining (anyone else like the small L Liberal in “Canberraliberals”, haha).

That wasn’t so bad, but it is still there now. The remaining material is long lengths of plastic banner like signage that is wrapped around trees near the Scout Hall, and, more offensively, all around the St Jospeh’s Church fencing across the road.

I’m sure all the candidates will be out removing posters etc as soon as their BAC returns to a level at which they can drive, after celebrating/killing the pain.

Paging Norman Vogt – kindly remove the enormous flourescent orange sign from Adelaide Ave near the Yamba Dr roundabout.

The only ones left in my street this morning were from the “do as I say” party. The watermelons. The wooden stakes will be put on the fire next winter to combat global cooling.
