Good evening Canberrans.

I need the names of some businesses in Canberra that offer HTML conversion services. I’ve spent the last hour Googling to no avail. The department that I work for is in dire need of excellent quality services: a company that will actually convert Word and PDF documents to HTML by hand down to specifications of which heading levels to use to fit in with our content management system, etc.

If you know any company or people that could help with this, please comment here.

Thanks in advance.

Rab: if you could post an email address people could reply.

Hi everyone, and thanks for your comments.

Firstly, there’s no tender or panel or formal job offers here. I just wanted to know names of businesses that do this, as I was asked to call some agencies that offer these services to get information such as prices, turn-around times, etc. Our department is changing its policies to avoid any clashes with future web standards, and when this policy is signed off and distrubuted, we know we’re going to be asked for the names of places that can do this kind of work. I’ve been asked to get details for 3-4 places to supply on request.

I-filed, deye– I am in agreement, but unfortunately have no say in these decisions!

PS Rab get the slackers in your program areas to furnish you with HTML-friendly Word documents with the right heading levels in the first place. Make them a compulsory template if you need to. You will save a lot of outsourcing.

Any graphic design company.

Then they can get multiple quotes and pick the best one.

Another alternative to hiring a company to do it. If you have a couple of spare desk spots hire a few uni students on holidays on a short term contract and get them to do the work in house. Gives you an opportunity to evaluate them as possible employees down the track as well.

Under 80k – you only need to get three quotes. No rules about where you get them from etc….

not all govt jobs go via a panel.

calling for interest could be the start of an approvable process.

and if the panel can’t do it you are allowed to look elsewhere.

the process needs to be kosher. Posting a story on RA will put his bum in sling quicker than answering a call from Boy George.

And thats even before you look at the panel arrangements that no doubt will be in place that may, or may not have been overlooked in this case.

On the contrary, I think this one might pass muster. The buyer has gone looking in the market for listings/ads for businesses to approach for quotes. Found none. So he put up a request in a local public forum. Two have responded (if you wanted to be really good, you’d put up an address so lurkers could respond also), and will give quotes.

Depending on the scope of the work and the amount of money involved, it’s not bad. Somewhere between a limited dep’t-initiated tender and a public tender, but much, much cheaper for the taxpayer.

Remember, the process should serve the outcome, not become an outcome in itself.

And procurement practices go right up the pooper.

You’re looking right at him. What’s your email address?

Do you have an email address we can forward to interested parties?

No good on the link there. http://www.in2itive.com.au

My company will do that for you. in2itive.

How large/long are these word and PDF files?
