Z750 on youtube

After we have all had some great discussion on road safety in Canberra, particularly relating to motorcycles recently, I noticed a new posting on YouTube today.

Hopefully nature will be kind to “Joel” in the clip, but it proves that we “normal” folk worry about going a few kilometres over the limit and being caught by the cameras, while some idiots choose to break the law and film themselves doing so.

Let’s hope the cops catch this guy before a kangaroo does – shouldn’t be hard – how many Z750s are there in Canberra?

I have several friends who are members of the AFP, and some who have since retired. I don’t envy them their job, and always take the time to think of them on christmas day, or NYE. They are away from their families, dealing with all sorts of horrible circumstances every day – not all get to just sit in the station, and deal with “happy, friendly people”.

I have had a few lessons taught to me by some of the older members, one that saved me from a particularly nasty direction that I was going down in my life.

fairly certain that policing is up there with retail for a really bad day.

spambox, as is mentioned here and elsewhere, you-tube is already frequented by the police, they do scan for particular keywords, and if the RA hadn’t brought this to their attention, I certainly would have, as would many of my friends. failing that, they may well have already known about this fool’s behaviour. I wonder if he will be driving the toyota that appears on his website?

and this is the best bit of the article:

We’ve all broken a law or two, but guys, a word of advice: filming high-speed runs is like filming your conjugal activities… not to be done. If you must, keep it on lockdown like D-Block at Folsom. Otherwise… well, you should know by now what happens.

Tooks, local taxpayers expect service, and I am far from the only one to express concern about “poor customer service” which was how your superiors described my experiences in a face to face conversation.

You may have thought my original comment about making a complaint was me being a smart arse, but it actually wasn’t. If you feel genuinely unsatisfied with the way you were treated, then make a complaint.

I do know that traffic complaints are generally dealt with a lot differently to yours (ie. a car is sent out, statements are made, court etc), which is why I was a bit sceptical.

I’d be interested to know what you were actually told by the operator.

So if you’ve had your concerns/issues dealt with why are you still holding a grudge against the police. Sounds to me like you had access to, and good service (with an apology thrown in) from, the AFP head-shed so let it go. You’ll be surprised how much better you may feel.

Look for the best in people, occassionally you might find it:)

Yeah, I know about Bigred’s dislike for police. I also know he won’t make a complaint (as suggested by me), because he’s probably not being completely honest about his conversation with the police operator, or the incident itself.

To Bigred,

Honestly, what would you expect cops be doing??? dealing with some chick who’s been beaten up by her abusive partner or deal with silly ute crossing double lines???

You’re kidding aren’t you? We’re talking Canberra here. Workers licences are only supposed to be given out in ‘exceptional’ circumstances. Every driver that applies for one in the ACT Courts seems to be ‘exceptional’. I am yet to see someone miss out on one

I was wondering why there hasn’t been a peep out of JohnBoy on this thread – and here’s the answer, thanks to someone else finding the old Bentley post (I think it was John Laws, btw). Here’s a VERY relevant quote from JB circa 2005! : ]

“I have driven over 200kph (just to see what it felt like) and I’ve taken a motorbike over 170 for much the same reason.

“For the record it feels like the most alive you’ll ever be. Your reaction space opens, and opens, and you adjust to making dozens of decisions a second. Your field of view narrows and narrows to the tarmac in front of you.

“In a way it’s like being in big surf. When the world narrows to the point you’re in with the crests either side and everything in monochrome as your brain decides, and decides, and decides, on which way lies safety and which way disaster.

“But (and it’s a big, big, but) there’s nothing dangerous to others about being in big surf.

“So i took vehicles up to those silly speeds once, and having been there. I don’t feel a need to go again.”

No worries. In that case, you should make a complaint to the AFP, then if you are not satisfied with the result, go to the ombudsman. Let us know how you go.

He has no one but himself to blame for the trouble he’s in now. No one forced him to get on his bike and drive at 200km/h down Anzac Parade and wherever else and film it and post it on the internet for the world to see. Lucky the cops got to him before he crashed and burned, as it was only a matter of time before this was going to happen.

The response will be underwhelming.

What did you want them to do? Did you get the lunatic tradie’s rego? Were you willing to go in an provide a statement to police regarding his dangerous driving? Would you be willing to go to Court for it?

Tooks, sorry it took me a while to reply. I wasnt so much complaining about the lack of police, but the lack of high visibility policing. In the old days youd see a marked car on the side of many common roads, and everyone was aware the police were watching. These days, half the traffic control cars are unmarked and those that are marked seem to be more often used for ceremonial duties than high-visibility patrols.

Im simply saying that seeing a white falcon decked out with speed gun and lights and full markings, makes for more careful drivers than a few scattered speed cameras around the city. It probably costs less to setup a marked car than some of these unmarked vehicles Ive seen (I saw a black ute with red and blue lights embedded all over it from the tray to the wing mirrors recently).

No need for sorries!

I agree with your thoughts about high visibility policing. There is a real need for unmarked vehicles as well though, as they can detect offences like mobile phones, burnouts/hoon behaviour, seatbelts, red light runners etc better than marked cars.

As for the set up costs re marked cars vs unmarked, I really don’t know. I don’t think hooking up the blue and red lights (as in the black ute) wouldn’t be all that expensive really.

Spam Box, once his brain matures in about five years, Joel will in fact look back one day and thank RiotAct. Anyone who saw the ABC series on nurses’ lives in Melbourne a few years back was treated to footage of a bike rider’s completely trashed leg pre foot amputation, just cut out of his boot, with the bone sticking out of the flesh and the foot hanging uselessly. The treating doctor in Emergency specifically asked the ABC to air the footage so that bike riders might see it and ride more carefully. That footage should be posted to YouTube.

May I take this opportunity to say; “you are a complete oaf sir!”

I don’t know what these “bragging rights” which seem to have some importance to you are, but they are certainly not the motivating force behind what has gone on here. Some of us are parents, others have wives, husbands, parents and partners who live in the Canberra area, we do not want them in any way endangered by the antics of this turnip headed, five-thumbed moron.

I would have been happy if the outcome of his antics was a one person crash, leading to his well deserved demise. However there was no guarantee of this, so other actions were apt and apposite.

I’ll say it again; “you are a complete oaf sir, there are more intelligent things than you living in your hair!”

yeah spam box, sure, right, we did it on here for sport only… if the police had caught him in the act, you’d be in at the station going, ‘aw, you only got him ’cause it’s your job’ or something equally moronic..?

he f*cked up, he got caught: if he hadn’t f*cked up, there’d be no problem and no need to change his life, eh? think about that for your new year’s resolution…

Re: #87 and #88, Mediawatch had a segment on the CT some years ago, a letter had been printed with a tiny, little, unacknowledged change, the Crimes removed itself from a list of monopolies mentioned by the writer. When questioned by Mediawatch the Crimes tried to excuse its behaviour, but it wasn’t very convincing.

I’d rather have him in ‘life changing serious trouble’ than have to look at his epidermis spread 300 meters down a Canberra road when he finally comes off.

Almost anything posted on the internet is in public domain. Think of it like standing up in the middle of a shopping center and shouting out stuff, people are going to find you, look/listen and judge and probably even act upon what they see.

If you don’t like that then, as the classic saying goes, “get off my internets.”

Don’t worry Spectra – for every 10 sane people there is 1 loony – guess it was his time..

Happy RA new year BTW – I’m doing the same thing as you tonight 🙂

Spare me the sanctimonious crap

Shall do. I’m not interested in discussing this further with you. I’ll stand by my posted comments in this thread and leave it at that. Think/say what you want – I know why I wanted this guy off the road.

Spam box – perhaps “Tool” box would be a better pseudonym yes?

On 3 separate occasions I said

The only thing he is is irresponsible.

People who abuse their privilege to ride on the road so irresponsibly deserve a little extra attention from Karma – and a lot less respect from society.

I am happy that it is one less incompetent over testosteroned road user to avoid

Please outline where I did it for sport, bragging rights etc?.

The reason I did it was because I could not, and WILL NOT tolerate such blatant disregard for other road users safety.

Sure it may impede his future options, sure that’s harsh, but so is a full body blow from a 200kmh chunk of metal.

You think we got him into serious life changing trouble ?, yes, we forced him to ride his bike in an irresponsible manner, we told him to rig a camera to his bike for the sole purpose of recording such exploits, we posted the video up to you tube and we also left a crumb trail (More like loaves of bread as Kramer discovered) to discover his true identoty.

Its his own fault, and if it was not us who discovered it, it would have been someone else too…

In any case – Kudos goes to ACT Policing Traffic Ops for making our roads safer.

Yeah sure all those things are possibility’s, but I don’t buy that for a second. It was done for sport, you know it and I know it.

Spare me the sanctimonious crap

Addendum: I can only hope we got him in life changing trouble, because, if those videos were anything to go by, if he didn’t change his life it was likely to be a very short one.

Yeah, you’re right Spam – none of us could possibly have wanted this guy off the road for any reason other than bragging rights. There’s absolutely no possibility that we could have maybe had a modicum of concern for other road users, or indeed this guy’s own safety. “Might have deserved it in some way” indeed.

SheepGroper: Ask and ye shall receive, it would seem 😉

No, I don’t have anything better to do on New Year’s Eve…why do you ask? 🙂

Wow, NSX Nick got smashed, didn’t he? Funny thread, but couldn’t be bothered reading all 51 pages 🙂

The first 8 were the funniest, and then it was just the entire internet coming on to cheer. You miss it now, but the site actually collapsed under the load. It was only designed to host several hundred people at a time, and so the frequent references to “the donkey” was because when you couldn’t get on, you copped that picture of the donkey whose load is so big, it’s tipped and the donkey is up in the air.

then they hand-drew on the picture some annotations: they wrote “NSX forums” with an arrow to the donkey, and “the entire internet” and an arrow pointing to the tipped cart.

It was a pretty funny few days.

Not sure about cherries, but I heard some will accept pineapples.

…I know that sometimes gifts are accepted, but probably not beer. A mate of mine’s station got 3 boxes of cherries (big boxes, maybe 50cm x 25 cm x 25cm high?) and they were accepted. Very nice gesture from one of the local fruiters. 🙂

There have been times when my mate also got a 12 pack of free-range chook eggs for witnessing a guys documents and helping him out.

If your mate wants to save the beer for himself, writing an official letter detailing why he is saying thanks for the police efforts to the CPO or the OIC of the station works… the individual cops who helped him out will then receive praise and the blessing from those higher up. It’s a nice change to the usual written complaints!

Oh and back on topic, I think that if you are dumb enough to post videos like that on the net, you deserve the full force of the law. There are also the pics of him doing burnouts in an old toyota on his myspace page… hmmm not too bright!

It’s not such a bad thing agreeing with me, is it? 😉

I would love for each camera to be replaced with another patrol car, but it isn’t going to happen, unfortunately.

Tooks, are you a cop? I know this is off topic but what is the AFP’s policy on accepting gifts? A mate of mine is talking about dropping a case of beer off to his nearest cop-shop next Xmas eve as a way of saying thanks for their efforts during the year. He’s concerned that they might not accept this as a gift of thanks.

Hahahaha, interwebz justice at its’ finest.

Seriously though, it’s these sorts of stories that stop me from posting too much information up on the web. The US had a really really good ad on the tele about a year ago or so about posting stuff up on the internet and it really hit home about how things can happen.

So your saying that they have replaced police officers with speed cameras? Wrong. Heaps of drivers get booked EVERY day for speeding and other traffic offences.

Should there be more police on the road? Yeah, that would be nice, but you can only use the numbers you have.

nyssa76 said :

They should be giving Kramer a medal for locating the idiot.

No, they should be putting officers on the street instead of cameras, so they dont have to wait til the horse has bolted, found a wife and settled down, before they have any clue of whats happening. Remember the old days when youd see actual human police officers sitting with a radar gun on the side of the road, catching drivers, warning them of their dangerous habits then writing a fine on-the-spot. Instead now, you simply receive a bill/invoice in the mail, some future time (between 1-6 weeks) after the incident.

As others have pointed out, the number of unmarked cars is increasing. While driving through woden the other day, I saw two sets of traffic lights flashing orange, and a few minutes down the road I saw *two* vehicles pulled over by two separate undercover vehicles (one was a black ute). 15 minutes later, I travelled through the same intersection, the lights were still on the blink and police were nowhere to be seen. Admittedly, writing a fine to some guy driving at 85km/hr down Athllon Drive, has a higher financial benefit than stopping an accident on Hindmarsh drive.

In the old days, drivers knew if they were caught speeding theyd have to deal with a police officer or two. Now if they get caught speeding, they have to deal with a website that only takes visa or mastercard. Young drivers have no reason to respect the laws, if you break the law its the same as getting a big mobile bill, to a youngster.

Motorcyclist charged over YouTube joyride videos
“On Monday, police executed a search warrant at a house in Kingston where they seized unedited footage of the incident, a video camera, a laptop and a hard drive.
Today, they found the bike at a house in Kambah.
The man was later interviewed by police and will face ACT Magistrates Court at a later date. “

It looks like the Police won’t have to worry about proving the video was his. Nice one

VYBerlinaV8_the_one_they_all_copy7:32 am 31 Dec 08

… which will likely mean he gets a month having his license disqualified, rather than 3 weeks.

This IS Canberra after all!

The youtubeing will count to sentencing

I have been wondering what they can do with a youtube vid in court

The story says the Police have siezed unedited footagefrom the guys house, so I doubt the youtube video will even come into it. The Youtube video helped with the warrant.

I’ll actually be very interested to see how the cops pick the video to pieces – because surely the defence would say something like “The video is clearly edited to make it seem like he was traveling that fast…” or “He is a sad and lonely young man who felt the need to put other people’s lives at risk to inflate his self-esteem…”

I have been wondering what they can do with a youtube vid in court, and I assume they will be:

1. Determining the speed one would likely be traveling to get from point A to point B in relation to the length of the video (given the clear landmarks in the video)incorporating…

2. … the speed and movements of the surrounding traffic, and

3. Charges relating to the dangerous lane changes/overtaking etc?

How does a video stand up in court? I am genuinely curious….

Free beer for the year would be good, though I am happy that it is one less incompetent over testosteroned road user to avoid… Now for the other 350,000 – excluding RA readership of course 🙂

No surprises that my comments obviously got moderated out as well.

I wonder if they will moderate a plain old dead tree version addressed to “letters to the editor.”

You can comment, but only if we agree.

I wonder if Media Watch would be interested in this whole saga with RA, CT and the wider news media picking up the story. Particularly the fact several comments on the CT website by RA members being moderated out and the fact that this has happened before.

This bloke will be just like Corey when he hits the courts. Famous all over the country and probably getting paid gigs on national media. And he will just walk out of court and jump on his new bike. You watch!

oh and what about this photo on his myspace

http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=104813537&albumId=491611

232kmph on what seems to be the same bike!

Looks like you solved the case Kramer – the AFP prob used your snooping of myspace and got him from the numberplate!

Posting evidence of crime committal on the internet without covering your tracks: CLM

hopefully there is some other cameras on the areas that he was riding so that the speed on the tape can be verified. To me It doesn’t look like he is going the speeds shown on the speedo. Plus the bike seems to accelerate harder than a normal 750 so I suspect the rider has changed the sprockets on the bike to make it look quicker than it is.

But then they’d need to treat Kramer, Jazz, and the other RiotCabal as local media barons, and everybody who posts here as a watered-down, low-rent version of a journalist, combined with a questionable source and an anonymous story credit.

They’re industrial-sized blinkers, but ones they can’t take off without becoming very disillusioned with their own jobs, and at the same time acknowledging they have treated their audience like idiots for years.

Most major national news services have carried the story both in national bulletins and online news feeds. Good to know we’re useful for something as is the online report a crime section of the AFP/Crimestoppers websites 😉

WIN reported the police were able to sieze the unedited versions of the youtube footage, so they should have extra evidence to throw the book and more at him. Should be good for a few years off the road and possible time in the big house, but knowing the ACT court system, 3 months licence suspension.

The CTs policy of not allowing their staff to troll the web for stories has been posted on other RA threads previously. I also tried to advise the ABC and CT of the excellent work that RA has done in allowing us to discuss/raise the Marist and Dara issue in Canberra when I was interviewed by them earlier this year. The ABC advised it would be against their policy to credit RA for such work as this would amount to ‘advertising’ which is against their policy.

Surely it is plagarism then if they don’t acknowledge RA as the source of the story. I wonder how ABC or CT would feel about RA posting a story sourced from them and not acknowledged?

Pwned.

RiotACT FTW!

Oops, I am very blind obviously, sorry for repeating the information.
Well done to those who contributed to removing this person off the roads and facing the courts.

I agree with VG. I got the impression Varley was talking about the comments on YouTube itself, not RiotAct.

Only if you think people calling it what it is, a gigantic act of stupidity on this site, is encouraging it.

I’m sure he is talking about the YouTube commentary, Einstein

I think the comment is more directed at the dckhead posting his antics on youtube. But I think everyone should do it, makes it easier for us to send the links to the AFP to investigate!

That’s what I think too.

Yes also according to Today Tonight they are questioning someone.

I hope they put him in jail the moran

According to WIN News, a man from Kingston is being questioned and the bike suspected as being involved was located in Kambah.

OMG – I just saw a preview of Today Tonight on Prime and they’re running this story!!!!!

Given the stiling work done by the Mods and contributors on this and other crime related threads, perhaps RA should have a new tagline: ‘RiotACT – Bringing Justice to Canberra, one idiot at a time’

I have commented on the relevant Crappy Times page about the first reportage of this hoon first happening on here.

Well done to all concerned..

Considering the quality of the average “don’t pick on my mate who (insert rant type)” should this be expanded to perhaps a 5 post rant goal? JB?

Additionally, all previous comments on his youtube videos were deleted – but a raft of more obnoxious ones were posted as well.

Little hint – remove it all together if you do not want negative comments

PS I am no longer a 3 post nutbag virgin 🙂

Posted this comment just now to the CT article

“It appears that all journalistic credit for this story should go to local Canberra blog “The RiotACT”. The first time that this video came to this blogs attention was 26th December 2008 – 4 days before this story was run. RiotACT admin then done some detective work and traced the name and registration of the owner through open sources. Another RiotACT reader then sent an email to ACT Policing Traffic Operations. It seems that the Canberra Times forgot to credit their sources.”

Lets see if it passes moderation and gets posted.

Will post to ABC as well if they have comments enabled for this story

Got an email from ACT Policing today stating that they were currently investigating this matter (Read charging IMO) – the power of RiotACT prevails, good detective work Kramer…A win for all law abiding road users.

Just saw on the 10 news update that “a man has been arrested after posting a video on youtube” (showing the same bike footage

It’s now on ABC Canberra‘s website.

A 20-year-old Canberra man is being questioned by police over a video posted on a website showing a motorcyclist travelling at more than 220 kilometres an hour.

GottaLoveCanberra1:48 pm 30 Dec 08

Haha, reminds me of the forum website in Calgary that tracked down a stolen car and a few of the posting members staked out the culprits house until the police showed up.

They found out all of the information about the scum via the interwebz.

Shame its only the absolute fools who get caught this way.

I wonder if putting a stinger out around 10 tonight might get me the idiot you likes racing his turbo down my street till the pop-off valve goes off. I might even call an ambulance if it rolls, or maybe not.

Just saw on the 10 news update that “a man has been arrested after posting a video on youtube” (showing the same bike footage)

Maybe they’ve outsourced the CT to the Illawarra Muckury.

and at more than 200km/h on Anzac Parade …. Both videos appear to be shot in the inner south

wow, those CT journos have the grasp of their city – geography being their strong point, too…

Perhaps a few comments in the CT, informing the populace of the sterling work done here, would not go amiss?

Growling Ferret8:12 am 30 Dec 08

Joel features on the front page of today’s CT. Wonder where they got the story from? I’m surprised they didn’t claim Kramers detective work as their own too

Jonathon Reynolds8:09 am 30 Dec 08

Looks like the Canberra Times has been trawling the RiotACT pages for stories again…
http://www.canberratimes.com.au/news/local/news/general/police-target-youtube-speed-hoon/1396688.aspx
Funny how the CT journos never like to acknowledge where they picked their story leads from.

Following up on Kramer’s original investigative work, it appears that if you do a search in google for JMM006 there is a profile on Bebo that gives a full name, NSW location and pictures that correlate with the Myspace and YouTube images… shouldn’t be too hard for the police to track the individual down given the bread-crumb trail he scattered across the interwebs.

“Joel age 20” stated on Kramer’s find that he’s planning to go for a pilot’s licence next year … should let the pilot licensing authorities know as well … I wonder whether he has designs on the RAAF? Presumably he would be weeded out very early …

not the kind of hotshot they are looking for…

So… he went to meet his maker – or just incapacitated for life (Evil grin)

People who abuse their privilege to ride on the road so irresponsibly deserve a little extra attention from Karma – and a lot less respect from society.

So now we wait for Eppiphany-Rae-Tahyler Smith-Jones (Or last years Miss SummerGnats) to tell us how good he was and how he baked her a cake.

I have it on good authority that this twat is no longer an issue, and that he had a crash a little while ago. Problem over. Natural justice is so sweet…

hmm a motorcyclist vs pretty much anything = motorcyclist lose.

unless he happened to hit a pedestrian, but that would be difficult hit.

hmm bd84. Kinetic Energy is equal to half the mass times the velocity squared.

300kg of motorcycle and idiot travelling at 230km/h has more kinetic energy than a two tonne vehicle travelling at 80km/h, more than enough to be lethal to other drivers and passengers, as well as pedestrians, cyclists and other motorcyclists. I don’t wish him harm but he shoud be removed from the road for everybody’s safety

nice one! i’m sure they could probably get enough from the videos if they tried hard enough even without the obvious identifiers. I wonder if this idiot is the same person as the one(s) that did 200kph past the cameras on the parkway a few months back too..

Someone send this URL to AFP before video is ripped down.

Says he is a christian – looks like he wants an express lane to check out and meet his maker.

The only thing he is is irresponsible.

Looks like the site doesn’t support Japanese text, then. ????????

Heh, his tattoo “??” cracks me up. What he wants to say, “God’s warrior”, would be “???” (assuming he specifically wants to use the word ‘samurai’ as opposed to ‘soldier’ etc). Wouldn’t you at least hit google translator before getting a language you don’t understand tattooed on yourself?

I guess if you’re stupid enough to put up a photo of yourself in the same album as a photo of you going 200kph down Anzac parade, thinking doesn’t really come naturally… it takes too much effort to be that cool to bother with anything else.

Oh I’m looking forward to this dckhead being roadkill and reading his obituary in the CT. And who said lane filtering was perfectly safe? One example of him going between 2 cars at over 100kph, and he nearly got killed twice in the 2nd video by vehicles merging. Too bad they missed.

Anyone forwarded the video links to the AFP yet? 😉

Since you obviously are an expert in this field, please grace us with your plan on how this could be achieved to the satisfaction of everybody….

I didn’t claim to be an expert, I gave my opinion. Also, what makes you think I need to come up with a plan to achieve this?

G-Fresh said :

Simple, put more police in marked cars driving around. If you want to even go one better tell them to be on the lookout for people doing stupid things, not just speeding.

What is it with F***tards doing illegal stuff and then placing all the evidence of it up on the web for all (inc the coppers) to see?

I personally hope that when he has his accident (and it will happen, the web is littered with people bragging about their skills to have an accident only days later) it’s between him and a tree, and not some other road user.

Damn, nice work Kramer!

That wouldn’t be the same as this Joel?

With photos of the same red speedo doing 200+ on Anzac Parade.

and more photos including a Z750. The latest pics have an obscured number plate, but there’s another on of what appears to be the same bike with the NSW rego JMM88. Male 20 years old, virgo sign (so August/Sept ’88 DOB). Is that enought for the AFP to send him a ticket (or at least a caution)?

Pommy bastard2:58 pm 26 Dec 08

Personally I hope the roo gets him first…

Pisses me off. Pricks like this give sane riders (the vast majority) a bad name. Don’t get me wrong, riding a motorcycle at high speed is one of the most awesomely fun things you can do, but public roads are not the place to do it.
I’m less worried about a kangaroo catching him than some poor bastard’s driver-side door…

GottaLoveCanberra12:13 pm 26 Dec 08

As a sports car driver I can tell you that over the last 2.5 years I’ve seen a definite increase in the amount of marked patrol cars on the roads, well at least down south here I have.

I pretty much see one every time I get in my car and drive, and I don’t forget the amount of unmarked vehicles going around as well.

VYBerlinaV8_the_one_they_all_copy11:37 am 26 Dec 08
