Premier Screening of Whaledreamers in Canberra
Hello Friends,
I would like to inform you that Encuentro and friends are organising three dynamic activities throughout Canberra. The events will celebrate indegenous cultures of our fragile world, whilst helping raise awareness and funds towards the wellbeing of indigenous communities in Altai.
Altai is known as the “Pearl of Asia” and is situated in the middle of Euroasia. Its rugged beauty, diverse ecosystems and the local indigenous people of the Altai Republic are under threat from Russian land reforms. Help over 80,000 indigenous people protect their way of life and their ancestral lands.
Special Guest – Bunna Lawrie – a whaledreamer
Bunna is one of the main characters in the movie “whaledreamers” and he will be present at the screening of the movie. Bunna is a member of the “Mirning” tribe in South Australia. 1. Friday: 20-03-09 – Music night at Smith Bookshop – 76 Alinga Street Canberra City – Time: 6.30 till 9.30pm – Cost: Donations
Musicians: Bunna Lawrie is the singer of legendary Aboriginal band “Coloured Stone”. Trio Encuentro comprises of three talented Latin American musicians that will enchant patrons with their melodies and acoustic guitars.
2. Saturday: 21-03-09 – Screening of “Whaledreamers” – Manning Clarke Lecture Theatre 3 – ANU – Time: 7.30pm – Cost: $10 concession & $15 waged
“Whaledreamers”: is the award-winning movie produced by Julian Lennon and narrated by renowned Australian actor Jack Thompson. The movie is a powerful story about hope, renewal and reconciliation – www.whaledreamers.com
3. Sunday: 22-03-09 – Music at Satis Vegetarian Café in Watson – Time: 10am – Cost: donations.
Musician: Bunna Lawrie will entertain the patrons at Satis with his acoustic melodies and “Dreamtime” stories.
