Andrew Barr gets tough on football - bargains hard for a jersey

Andrew Barr has announced his position on negotiations with the AFL.

While offering to throw millions at the game he is holding out for some genuine locality. He’s also very specific about what sort of jumper he wants:

Reports have also suggested that a second Sydney team would play in a special Canberra “home jumper” for its games in the capital.

“I am keen on a Canberra jumper. But my message for the AFL will be simple. I want a proper traditional footy jumper, with stripes, a sash, a v-neck or hoops, not one of the messy concoctions that so many new teams in all codes of sport have adopted. A strong footy club needs a strong identity here. Only a proper footy jumper can deliver that.”

damn you axe man, i was about to jump (‘scuse the pu) back in and point out ‘guernsey’ – perhaps these non-grammarians should be popped off to gaol…

and no, holden – much could be read in this and i agree, they in no way exclude an opportunity for a ‘canberra’ guernsey.

I await the AFL’s reply. Bye, bye Canberra

Not quite…

Jabba the Hutt: “We’d like to keep playing football in Canberra and now with the western Sydney team going in 2012 it would give us an opportunity to perhaps cement a much longer relationship with the ACT government … I think it would be good for Canberra and it would (be) good for us”.

His first sentence started with ‘we’d like’, throw in a ‘perhaps’ and an ‘I think it would be good’.

Doesn’t sound definite to me, and easily cocked up by a Minister who wouldn’t know sport from a hole in the ground

I didn’t say it was definite, but it is clearly not the “bye, bye” you seemed to be expecting.

It’s a guernsey. We don’t wear jerseys in football

I only hope he’s as supportive of an A-League team. Aussie Rules is the only form of football I’ve never as I just can”t see the attraction.

I’m quite the opposite, can’t quite understand why anyone would want to spend hours waiting for a single goal in soccer…

Meanwhile, I enjoy that the uniform is nearly as important as getting the actual team here! I guess it’s one way to get the headline anyway.

Now whose silly idea was it to add the extra seating at Bruce making it too small/square for AFL?

You know what I’m going to say…

You know you’re victimizing someone because of their sexual preference.

And now you’ll tell me to lighten up.

Maybe Martin Luther King should have lightened up…

Jabba (nice) did mention on the offsiders this morning that the govt were going to upgrade Manuka to 25,000.

I wonder if he meant Canberra Stadium??

Football Park: Andrew when will it be back?

Here’s Barr at the end of his media release in full Rudd-esque cry.

Has he demanded extremely tight, short shorts be worn as well?

heh i’m sure it’s a personal requirement for him.

Anyway, it’s commendable for him to be interested in attracting AFL games here, most games attract a larger crowd than the Raiders do these days. I hope he doesn’t stuff everything up with his rediculous “requirements”.

i trust so, nambucco – getting warwick capper in as fashion adviser, i hear… best policy call by an mla ever, yes? we need another poll.

Queer eye for the straight AFL guy?

I await the AFL’s reply. Bye, bye Canberra

I only hope he’s as supportive of an A-League team. Aussie Rules is the only form of football I’ve never as I just can”t see the attraction. But that’s just my preference. I’m not sure laying down condition on the team jumper is any of his business though.

onya barbell….maybe the old east canberra eagles jumper could switch codes?…..that’d f#ck em

Best thing he’s ever said!!

There’s nothing worse than a footy jumper designed by a marketing company.

Say what you will about his other policies, this one I can embrace wholeheartedly!
