mobtek of CanberraRiders captured these shots yesterday afternoon arriving just as the driver was calling his mum. The driver got back in the car, started it up and tried to reverse out. Fully.

Driver: “I wasn’t even going that fast”

Driver’s mate: “Yeah but your tires are almost bald”

NB: noone was injured.

My oath. I love mine! Got some new flash ones from Lowes and they already look old. Best gear ever. I have to wear such formal dressy stuff through the week, trackies and CROCS are the go when not at work. And they’re warmer than jeans. And better for working in too as they stretch. Trackies for ever!

In defence of trackies (and while I certainly wouldn’t wear them shopping), I maintain that they are the ideal garment for transiting to and from the snow, especially if you want to do a back-seat-change into ski pants when you get there!

Does that make you a snow bogan instead of a snow bunny ?

Apparently!

I am told I must wear trackies over lycra after dismounting my bicycle and before sitting down to a Sunday morning coffee or brekkie. Am told it is for the public’s protection.

Honestly people…

Tracksuits? What’s the big deal?

meh. I wear my trackies every chance I get in down time. Daily wearing of a suit does that to you.

Good point Stace; unfortunately even daggy trackies were too snug for me in all of my pregnant glory; I was resigned to hideous maternity smocks, caftans, moo moos and other very unfortunate items of clothing 😉

Trackies are appropriate when pregnant – beats maternity pants and waistband extenders! Loving ’em at 37 weeks 🙂 hehe

Just don’t wear tracksuit pants to the mall, okay?

Yea’h.

I don’t care enough to take sides in the debate, but Newen… I can’t help but lose a LITTLE respect for somebody who claims to be an intelligent person (or one would assume so, from the “high paying job” and being “in contact with the law community”) when you don’t seem to know the difference between “your” and “you’re”.

And the schoolyard. Nice.

no, feelings were hurt, people were offended, but not hurt or injured

it’s an invasion of privacy when you get people in the photo’s to be slandered.

And when I left the scene as you said, I was doing something constructive and trying to get a tow truck, not just standing there gorking and offering no assistance.

If my pic wasnt on this site I wouldnt even be on here but you defamed my character with my photo and the comments added to it.
quote]

I just want to stress again, I am not the guy that was on the bike, and neither is the guy who posted these photos. So the best conclusion is that he didnt do it for any reason, someone else who wasnt even involved did it.

Slander and defamation are big words to throw around, and neither are nesecarily accurate, this photo has not ruined your reputation among your peers, and although yes, you may have had some unsavoury comments come your way, its far short of what could be considered either slander or defamation, you werent involved in an indescent act, and as you chose to wear those clothes, the photographer cannot be blamed for opinions formed on your choice of attire, not that there was anything wrong with it anyway.

also, bike gear can make it a little difficult to render assistance in the areas of pulling a car out of a ditch, and its very possible that the guy had no mobile reception, taking photos may not have been the best course of action, but what has happened has happened, lets all just be glad that nobody was hurt, and hopefully learn from the experience.

There were a lot of really nice people who stopped to help or see if everyone was ok and I really appreciated that. And to the man who helped get the car out was a legend, he used his time to actually help. I would do the same thing and have done in the past.

I personally said thankyou to the man on the bike that day and so did the driver. It was a pitty you didnt say all of this stuff to my face then instead of posting this on the net the next day. This wasnt a fun experience for me from that day and I am dissapointed that you would publish photo’s of me and place them on this site. I’m still not sure if you did this out of anger or just for something to do but I think you went the wrong way about it. At an accident you don’t just stand there and take photo’s, it’s an invasion of privacy when you get people in the photo’s to be slandered.

And when I left the scene as you said, I was doing something constructive and trying to get a tow truck, not just standing there gorking and offering no assistance.

Anyway I’m done with this site. Thanks for taking the pics down and thanks for the peoples comments supporting my anger about these photo’s.

Yes, i have had an accident, and guess what, it happened when i was being a d!ck,

And nothing teaches that lesson better than cresting a rise at 140 to discover sheep on the road as far as the eye can see. Now that’s some trouble you don’t want to have to get yourself out of …

ooh, my turn is it?

well, ill be happy to take the heat off newen for a while.

and I dont mund being called a bogan, just a sign of how australian I am 🙂

Loud – tick

Obnoxious – Tick
Ignorant – Tick

Yep, from requiem’s comments i (sic) have concluded that he or she must be a bogan

there is no excuse for losing control of a car at any point, if you lost control, then you werent driving for the environment. and as such, you were being a d!ckhead. OR your tyres are way to bald to be roadworthy, and again, that would make you a d!ckhead.

That’s pathetic Requiem.

Never had a prang heh? Aren’t we holier than thou? I’ve even seen cops with all their special training slide off roads during normal driving. You got the same name for them buddy?

This whole thread is pathetic actually. Demostrates clearly the unfortunate side of RA that tests people’s tolerance.

no, I am not being holier than thou, Yes, i have had an accident, and guess what, it happened when i was being a d!ck, I wasnt speeding either, still doesnt excuse the fact that i put myself in the position to lose control of the car. I stand by what i said, if you arent driving to the conditions, you arent being a responsible driver, and since getting on a bike, I have a newfound opinion of those who dont drive responsibly.

lets just remember that newen wasnt driving, so it cant have been an attack on her, and the vehicles owners driving record seems to back up my comment.

call me pathetic if you like, but im happy to speak my mind. in a situation like that crash, there were so many things that magically went right, there was no oncoming traffic(and no motorbikes to wipe out), they missed a tree by only a few metres, they didnt roll, no one was injured. 50km/h is fine when your brakes can stop you, but once your tyres are sliding, your in an unguided missile, and all involved are very lucky no one was killed or seriously injured.

too many young people die on our roads as a result of stupid accidents that could have been avoided.

good that we can agree on something. as i said, id much prefer first aid over photos, and i think it was a slight misjudgement by nthbit to post them up here, but mobtek putting them up as a part of his ride report really isnt that bad of an act generally speaking, its not a huge forum, and *usually* if something goes on there, thats where it stays.

I have been in the situation of being in an out of control car, it is not fun, and can be a very scary experience, especially when you are not the driver. But that is no excuse for getting on here, and slagging the guy who pulled up to make sure they were OK, especially since he is not here to defend his own actions. that is (as newen would say) a dog act.

people accuse others on here of cyber bullying and such, which is worse, calling someone a bogan to their face (in a manner of speaking) who is free to defend themselves, or calling the guy who stopped to help a ‘Fat middle aged loser’and a dog behind his back while he is not even here to defend himself?

this girl will get no respect from me.

I don’t want to slag on anyone, requiem, but if you don’t think that a person who has been in a vehicle is traumatised after it has skidded off the road then you must never have been in that situation. And I would certainly not wish you to post any photographs of an accident I was involved in on the internet. If you had offered to email them to the driver, or bluetooth or whatever, fair enough.

It is my opinion that this incident has caused extra unnecessary upset to a person involved in an accident. You are free to disagree.

For the record I find motorbikes quite exhilarating actually. I love them.

i also like how you turned an expression of my own opinion(singular, just me, albeit a little harsh), to that of all of my mates.

why not just call us a bikie gang, seems to be the buzz word around here, should i start carrying a gun, and dealing drugs so you have a reason to slag on all bikies?

i think its fair to say that had there been trauma, then Mobtek wouldnt have been taking photos. I know i wouldnt, not saying that these photos ending up on RA was a great thing, but having them available is a useful thing to have, If i were to have an accident, any photos that might help my cause would be appreciated, providing that they werent of my torn up body, id much rather first aid than a photo.

also, ill just point out, that my concern when approaching an accident is genuine, as a first aider, and rider, i shudder to think of the injuries that can be encountered, i can not think of an accident i would just drive past, in fact, to date, i never have, and you havent seen any of my non-existant photos on RA or anywhere else on the internet.

i was perhaps overstepping the mark when i said i would ride on by, i wouldnt, but i got a little carried away, until i was sure everyone was ok, i wouldnt be going anywhere, but thats just me.

Well, it’s true that some victims of accidents may consider it helpful assistance to have their trauma photographed and plastered all over the internet. I personally wouldn’t.

I guess we’ll never really know how the photos would have turned out if the passengers had been in worse condition, but if requiem and his mates decide to ride on by in future then I could be wrong but I think most people would not miss that kind of concern.

And I certainly hope that people will continue to stop and try to render assistance at scenes of accidents (and crashes).

I kind-of wonder, would the subjects of these photos stop and offer help at the scene of a crash?

Just askin’.

oh, and everything i just posted, I’d be more than happy to say directly to your face

newen said :

Newie incase you have already forgotten, I am a female and wasnt driving the car, therefore I never said I had the money to pay for anything to do with this accident. I was the PASSENGER!!! The point I was making for your simple mind is, what does my bag or my trackies looked like have to do with this accident at all.NOTHING!!! You brought me into this dogging me. Your a dog mate, and a pathetic one at that, making out you were trying to help, you just wanted a geeze because your bored!!!! And if you want to get low and personal, I remember you being a fat middle aged frump but whats that got to do with this accident hey..

And I said on this occassion the driver wasnt speeding, I never defended any other behaviour in the past.
The cop said the same thing happened to him a few weeks ago on that road.

no one was indicating that this accident was caused by you, and might I point out, that if you happen to drive past an accident, its kinda instinct to make sure everyone is OK and that an ambulance isnt needed. As for the photos, the only reason they appeared on canberraRiders is as a part of a ride report, they were not posted as a direct attack on you or any of your mates, and they were certainly not to breach any of your ‘privacy’, note that your face isnt visible, which pretty much voids any claim that it invades your privacy anyway.

as i said earlier, the driver in question lost traction on a wet corner, granted, that corner is trecherous, but no one comes to grief on it who drives/rides to the conditions(ill bet the cop didnt end up in a drain),

the fact that someone posted this up on the Riot ACT seems to be your only real concern, and the poster has kindly removed any likeness of you, so, i come to my point…

considering the fact that ever since you popped up and had your little temper tantrum, the photos have been removed, yet you still feel the need to ‘dog'(as you would put it) a guy who pulled up and checked on you, had you been in worse condition, that could have saved your life, but its alright because your pink bag is ok so he must just be a fat old loser who was just there for a geeze. god forbid that you should be involved in a serious accident, because i would just ride on by, you seem like too much of an ungrateful little spoilt cashed up bogan for it to be worth while, and id hate to be labeled a fat old loser for being concerned.

take a good look at your life, and realise that money, and a shiny new car, and property doesnt stop you being a bogan, and your responses here seem to only reinforce everyones immediate conclusion

oh, btw. Id be willing to wager on the fact that the police report will include that speed was a factor (you dont have to be speeding to be going too fast for a road) the speed limit is a suggested maximum, not a target to beat.

well that’s double-bad. Failure to drift. Vin will have your backside for that.

Having owned one of those vehicles and knowing that road, I suggest the issue may have been caused by an intentional loss of traction at slow speed around a sweeping bend.

Perhaps the wheels started turning too quickly, hence sideways action.

I dunno, but I tend to suspect that if someone’s car skids off the road, they were going too fast to be on that particular bit of road.

Just sayin’.

Judging by the vehicle and conditions I’d say a dose of turbo boost coming on suddenly on a wet corner. Unless you catch it quick smart, you’re off…

And a dose of bald tyre/s to go with it, I suspect ?

Speeding is not the point I’m trying to make in this one …. (probably looked like it, I know) Something caused this crash, and in my opinion it was either 1. driving manner or 2. unroadworthy vehicle. I was interested in knowing her opinion into the cause of the accident.

Um, no, not under the federal Privacy Act 1988. It does not cover every person’s action. It covers certain actions by certain entities eg the Australian Public Service, health providers, businesses over a certain turnover, etc.

A few points:

I didn’t take these photos.
I have removed all but one of the photos.
Comments here seem to indicate this car has allegedly been seen displaying poor driving in and around canberra.

VYBerlinaV8_the_one_they_all_copy5:31 pm 15 Jun 09

Do you always make comments to women about their underwear, or only when you can hide behind anonymity?

It’s been known to happen face to face. Of course, I was a tad unpopular, but I didn’t really care.

Driver’s mate: “Yeah but your tires are almost bald”

Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding ….. we have a winner !!!!!!

Does this girl know that the guy she is defending had her in a death trap of a vehicle and could have killed her friends ….. or even other road users.

And they wonder why they get this type of negative attention.

@Newen

The loser on the motorbike???

might I point out that the so called ‘loser’ on the bike, was still on the road unlike your sorry looking cage, also consider what would have happened had that ‘loser’ been riding through that particular corner when your driver lost control.

there is no excuse for losing control of a car at any point, if you lost control, then you werent driving for the environment. and as such, you were being a d!ckhead. OR your tyres are way to bald to be roadworthy, and again, that would make you a d!ckhead.

I dont give a toss how steady your job is, or how much property you own, the fact of the matter is that more than one person could have been killed that afternoon, and none of your money, or property would have helped your sorry a$s when you got dragged before the courts.

You can winge all you want about your photo being on here, but ultimately its on the internet now, there is no going back. No laws were broken, and I think you should perhaps appreciate that these photos are available, as they mey help with your insurance claim. but you wouldnt care about that would you, because your too worried about people seeing you in your sunday trackies with your pink ‘prada’ bag (congratulations btw on wasting a rediculous amount of money on a bag because it has a brand name)

This is true, CK, but it’s frankly none of our business ….

Yeah well when you put it like that Granny it’s kind of sleezy I’ll agree and perhaps I could have left my observation at “I don’t think so VY”. Hell maybe she’s not wearing any undies at all!

This is the worst case of rubbernecking I have ever seen, Canberrans generally love to rubberneck a good accident more than most but this guy has actually stopped, got out his camera, taken pics and rushed home to upload the pics so all the other rubberneckers out there can have a good gork at it. Get a life fella.

It was an accident – big deal & get over it..

Newen, Its good to see you defending yourself more than that lovely excuse for an automobile….

You’re right about circumstances where photos shouldn’t be published. None of them apply to your situation though. Again, see links above.

Granny: seconded.

Don’t overthink this newen. We can’t even see your face.

Nobody knows who you are, newen, except your friends, and they will think the same as I do – that you’re all nicely dressed in casual sportswear. Don’t worry about it. Just be happy you’re all alive and well and take what lessons you can from the experience.

I would not like to see the law changed.

I go out with my family to public events and upload my pictures to Facebook, including whatever strangers happen to be in the shot, to share with my friends and family, particularly those far away.

I also think we would lose a lot of historical value, such as the opening of Parliament House under the changes you suggest. If people had to get every person in the crowd’s permission then it would make it impossible to record important historical events, and this is probably just the tip of the iceberg.

Give me one of you then and we’ll all comment on it!! It’s a dog act and you know it..

Under the privacy act there would be a few reasons why photo’s shouldnt be placed on the internet without the persons permission. You have no idea what’s going on in someone’s life. Your just small minded.

The guy on the bike saw that it was at low speed, there was no boost. If anyone has driven one of these cars they would know hitting boost in the wet around a bend would have the car in a tree or on it’s roof in peices. It was a simple lost traction in the wet. Your all making stuff up from a photo that even shows it wasn’t that damaged…

You have just proven to me how pathetic and narrow minded people can be.. Your just sheep following a story one guy has made up…. And I am in contact with the law society so we will see 🙂

optimal [crash] performance

I LOL’d. I’ve seen this car being driven stupidly multiple times, and it is a genuine carbon fibre bonnet.

optimal [crash] performance

Pity there isn’t a lot of visible panel damage, bent axles, etc. It might be back on the road in weeks rather than not at all.

Yeah, muthafukkas.

Here we go… put simply.. what a C*cKH#@d…. far out.. if ur gonna drive a turbo car.. At least learn the characteristics of the car b4 you give it your all… “wasnt even going that fast” yeah i bet thats cos when 4000 RPM came around full boost had hit with the rears spinning madly.. then he would have over corrected then bam off the road.. either dont drive a turbo if u dont know what ur doing.. or cheat and buy a WRX…

there are 3 S15s like that in canberra that i know of. if you could see the tail lights it would be easier to tell….

Yeah, but unfortunately 2/3 of them drive like retards.

G-Fresh offended rather than offending? Interesting!

I thought it was a tribute to the driving record of our former Chief Minister, Kate Carnell, who once performed an even more successful feat on her return from a regional food and wine weekend – she overturned hers completely, and in a much narrower ditch than this one.

I can’t see anything fully sick/hectic/mental about this vehicle. It’s got the factory fitted wheels and seemingly nothing changed just for looks.

Did you look at the other photos? Giant intercooler, non-standard & very low body kit and carbon fibre (or faux carbon fibre) bonnet were a dead giveaway to me..

Hard to tell how low the body kit is when it’s the cars on it’s side in a road shoulder.

A larger intercooler isn’t to be criticised until it’s discovered that the Turbo/boost level has remained standard. If not and there have been modifications chances are a bigger IC is needed for optimal performance.

Holden Caulfield2:47 pm 09 Jun 09

This thread delivers.

That car actually looks to have a genuine C-West bodykit, any J-Racing or Newgel local garbage would of definitely cracked, while that kit looks to of bent and not taken much damage. Hopefully that drain hasn’t damaged the chassis rails.

^ I am sure the banks would lend to them if their “mum” was a guarantor on their loan.

VYBerlinaV8_the_one_they_all_copy10:40 am 09 Jun 09

Berlina a lot of younger people take out loans to get cars of some value. It’s just a sign of the times and many will sell them when it comes time to cough up money for things like house deposits.

It’s not necessarily a negative judgement, just interesting that when I bought my first car (1992, when I was 16), everyone including me seemed to have to save up their 2-3k. Banks simply wouldn’t loan to kids in school/uni in those days, and there was no expectation that you borrowed for your car anyway.

VYBerlinaV8_the_one_they_all_copy said :

Slightly OT, but I am amazed at how many kids these days seem to drive very expensive cars and yet ‘can’t afford’ comprehensive insurance.

Not sure if the driver qualifies as a kid, but you still see a lot of very young drivers getting around in expensive wheels. My questions are:
1) Who the hell pays for these vehicles? and
2) Where were these people when I was a kid driving a crapbox older than I was?

When you were a young driver there wasn’t a large amount of heavily depreciated relatively reliable 90’s performance vehicles up for sale.

The build quality of 90’s sports cars in general surpasses the econobox and falcodores of the era, so combine good build quality, a car that is actually fun to drive, affordable prices, easy to obtain debt and someone looking at a sensible car that is falling apart, or a sports car that is holding together well, and you have a young person that would risk third party insurance on a “high risk” vehicle to drive the much better car.

Funny so many of you are cheering at the fact this fella has taken his car off the road. The same bunch might be in for a shock when they lose control of their vehicle and get a shellacking on the Riot Act for crashing their fully sick hectic standard Toyota Camry.

If you’re a numpty driver it’s easy to lose control at any speed. Whether within the law or not. Not to mention the risk of having your missus in the car, can be enough of a distraction to cause a major accident if you know what I mean.

Bald tyres, probably means that the fella is in debt and cannot afford new ones or he is saving up for his fully sik rims.

given the look of the car and where he was, i would assume he put old wheels (with old tyres) on the car to go out to Point Hut and have some fun, so as not to damage his full sik chromies.

I remember having with this driver of boxing him in on the Parkway/Erindale Dr & crawling along Tharwa Dr roadworks

Very mature and courteous of you. This sort of behaviour is the reason we have road rage.

Sweatpants and pink pleather bag, oh what a bogan. And a sh*tbox styled to have a similar roofline to a Porsche 911, oh give it up.

I just wish that they had crashed it OVER Point Hut Crossing. It would of been hilarious seeing a car upstream of the crossing & the car would of been written off (which this twat deserves-I say that due to fun I remember having with this driver of boxing him in on the Parkway/Erindale Dr & crawling along Tharwa Dr roadworks, just so that he does the Australian Road Rules 40k speed limit & not the imaginary 90k speed limit)

I have a 200sx and they are a handful in the wet. Add in bald tyres and its an accident waiting to happen. I hope this guy was just unlucky and not being an idiot out there.

Oh how I hate those shitty plastic dolphins from the 2 dollar shop.

When a bogan dies, we should all place them on their roadside compost heap.

VYBerlinaV8_the_one_they_all_copy8:54 pm 08 Jun 09

And those shitty plastic dolphins from the 2 dollar shop.

He’s bloody lucky he didn’t roll it, and maybe cause another roadside eyesore of rotting teddy bears and melting plastic flowers. I love sharing the road with these characters.

Felix the Cat8:00 pm 08 Jun 09

It must be the fault of the road, couldn’t possibly be the driver.

^ 1) It’s called debt.

Yeah, but how do you…

Forget it, I think I understand.

I would think that is would be easy to lose control of a 200sx in the wet if you were speeding.

It wouldn’t be a member of that law abiding safe drivers ‘club’ Rush Hour would it??

Luckily no one was killed – I hope he was charge with neg driving and bald tyres…what a hero.

Sik car control skilz.

Lucky there wasn’t a house on that road. It might have failed to give way…

Lucky there wasn’t a tree right there….. might have been reading about this in the police report instead…

I second that, what a dickhead.

Your camera needs to be calibrated, the car is really still on the road.

Just think what he could achieve at speed….

Clorine in the shallow end of the gene pool?

he was just reverse parking, wasn’t he? could happen to anyone…

You’re doing it wrong.
