Kick-off is at 7:30pm AEST.
The two coaches are both wary of their opponents, who have never met before. A win for either club will almost guarantee a match up with an A-League club in the round of 16, a prospect that has supporters in Tuggeranong and Hobart excited.
“We are absolutely delighted with the prospect of going to Hobart to play,” Tuggeranong United Head Coach Steve Forshaw said. “As well as being an unknown challenge it represents an opportunity to gain experience that we would otherwise be unlikely to get close to. It’s fantastic for Tuggeranong and for local football. We are really looking forward to the challenge and representing the ACT in the FFA Cup.”
A send off for the Canberra team on Sunday night attracted a wide cross section of the club, with TUFC President Jon Thiele reminding the team that have the complete support of the members, who know that they will give their all on Tuesday evening in what will be the biggest match the club has ever played in. Tuggeranong United have also received plenty of support from their fellow Capital Football clubs, and well as from the peak body themselves, all of whom see the benefits of such a competition for regions such as the ACT.
The 2014 Westfield FFA Cup is the inaugural nation-wide knockout competition involving 22 club team qualifiers from all FFA affiliated State and Territory football federations. All 10 A-League clubs will also take part. This aims to generate exposure at the grassroots level and make this competition a true national event. The state-based qualifying tournaments involved over 600 clubs across Australia.
Good luck to our local Tuggies team!
