ACT Policing is calling for witnesses to a serious assault in Civic on Sunday morning (24 August).

About 2.30am, police attended the front of Mooseheads on London Circuit after a man approached security staff stating he and a friend had been assaulted by an unknown man in the southern end of the Pitts Street car park.

The men were walking through the car park when one of them saw a man sitting in the gutter. When he asked the male if he was ‘ok’, the male stood up and became aggressive. The men apologised and continued on their way when they saw the male following behind. A short time later the male assaulted one of the men before turning on the other man, punching him in the face.

The second victim sustained serious damage to his left eye and was conveyed by ACT Ambulance Service to Calvary Hospital for treatment.

The alleged offender is described as Caucasian in appearance, with a stocky build, light brown hair and light brown stubble on his face. He was wearing a light coloured T-shirt and has a word tattooed on his chest.

Police conducted an extensive search of the area but were unable to locate the offender.

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who can identify the offender to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

… and another one on the board for Civic after dark. I really want to see our local pollies standing behind their ideology that assault and one-punch laws don’t need to be reviewed. How many more serious assaults need to happen before their eyes are opened?

Anyone willing to bet they either won’t catch this guy, or he’ll get off with another “just don’t do it again” sentence?
