Canberra based mountaineer Andrew Lock is heading off to Tibet this week to attempt to conquer Mt Shishapangma, the world’s 14th highest peak. Andrew is attempting to become the first Australian to climb all 14 of the world’s 8000 metre plus mountains. He works full time as a Commonwealth public servant to finance his expeditions, so all I can say to those of you reading this in your climate controlled offices – get inspired!

After completing the final “death zone” peak, Andrew plans to return to Everest for a third and final time.

“It may be time to hang up my ice axes after Everest,” said Lock. “I’ve survived where so many good climbers have died. I’ve been incredibly lucky but I can’t keep rolling the high altitude dice and survive.”

I just hope your luck holds out, buddy.

Good luck indeed. I stand in awe of anyone who can conquer not only the elements but also their own fears to achieve these feats.

Aye, good luck sir.

This character’s so cool. Let’s hope it all works aout, again.
