A quick shout out to local boy Mark Webber who won the Spanish Grand Prix overnight. Webber started from pole position and was never headed during the race, eventually crossing the line 24 seconds ahead of his nearest rival. Mark also set the quickest times in all three qualifying sessions to round out the most dominant display of his Formula One career to date.

The Monaco GP is next weekend, a Webber repeat win would be fantastic to see.

Bit of scuttlebutt from James Allen that Ferrari might be interested in Mark if Massa keeps sulking due to Alonso being faster.

Let’s hope RBR re-signs him for next year first.

It’s taken him a while to get there, but Webber is definitely within the top few (in terms of both driving and vehicle). Here’s hoping he gets enough momentum to take a world championship in the next few years!

Certainly he’s shown that when he’s dialled in he’s unbeatable, even Vettel has acknowledged that, but only being able to win when the track suits him is I think what is perceived to be the issue. He’s already matched his pole position record from last year with almost 3/4 of the season still yet to be run, so hopefully such performances will become more common this year.

Indeed HC.

FJ: I think he’s always shown he could win. It’s always been about the car until now. (Vettel would perhaps say it is still about the car…)
Fingers crossed for a moast important pole on Saturday.
He’s looking a little gaunt isn’t he? Fitness must be at the max.

The Red Bull has shown all the signs of a championship-winning car in the making for some time now. What’s exciting is watching Webber challenge the assumptions across the media and pit lane that Vettel is the better driver. Someone recently compared Webber with Nigel Manson, whose championship-winning days came along a lot later in his career, and speculated that Webber had it in him to do the same with the right car underneath him. Watching him standing tall on the podium, looking like a man whose time has finally come we can only hope that this is just the beginning.

@Al … I’ll take a boring race every time if it means Webber brings home the bacon!

+1 😀

It was nice to see… hope he can follow it up with several more… So nice to see him in a car up to the task (at last)!

presumably monaco isn’t a nanny state…

A great from the start win for Mark in an otherwise bland as race.

With Monaco, as long as the car stays running, it all comes down to pole position. The pits are the only place that anyone seems to get passed in that worst of street races.
