Oracle Apartments

We’re hearing there’s been a death in central Belconnen and a major police operation.

More as it comes to hand, post it if you’ve got it!

UPDATE: The ABC has a report:

The man’s body was found in an apartment on College Street in Belconnen around 12:40pm.

Police say it appears the victim suffered a number of injuries. They are treating the death as suspicious.

A large contingent of police is in the area.

College Street has been closed off between Benjamin Way and Condell Street while forensic officers investigate.

ACT Policing have also put out a release:

ACT Policing is investigating what is believed to be a suspicious death in an apartment in College Street, Belconnen, today (20 May).

Police were called to the scene around 12.41pm where the victim appears to have suffered a number of injuries, the full extent of which are yet to be determined.

The victim’s body was found within the apartment.

A crime scene was immediately established at the location and a section of College Street has been cordoned off between Benjamin Way and Cordell Street to allow AFP Forensic Services and ACT Policing detectives to conduct their investigations.

This investigation is likely to take a period of time during which access to the affected section of College Street, as well as a nearby apartment block, will be severely limited. Members of the public are requested to assist police by staying clear of the cordoned area.

Any witnesses who were in the area of College Street, Belconnen, around the time of the offence or who may have any information which could assist the investigation is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the website at www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.

Additionally we have unconfirmed (and increasingly dodgy) rumours in our comments of gunshots being heard in the area.

FURTHER UPDATE: From the radio, 4th floor of the Oracle Apartments.

Another Update: The following comment on this story is worth a look:

I live in the apartments, the cops have been questioning residents, they’ve been asking if we heard anything unusual last night (arguments/yelling) no mention of gunshots today though. Police are out searching the area for something and the underground carpark has been sealed off from everyone. They haven’t said anything apart from that a body was found in a unit in the back section of the Oracle and they’ve showed residents a picture of the victim, young asian guy. You have to have a swipe pass to access each floor or someone has to buzz you up though so whoever did it must have known him you’d assume.

One more update for the road: The SMH brings word that two women were taken by police from the scene.

We’ll really start a new story after this update: Crimestoppers informs us there are no signs of a robbery and an autopsy is underway.

Appalled –
Firstly, it’s very hard to take someone serious doing this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Secondly, how you live or die determines how public it will be!

Thirdly, if it was anyone’s relative from here, they’d be flippin’ upset and wouldn’t be worrying about what people were saying in here. Because, it matters not!

It wasn’t personal they don’t even know the guy or what happened, they made that clear enough.

If it upsets you that people have humour (albeit at the lowest ebbs sometimes), perhaps the spoiler in the heading would stop you from reading it next time.

Canberra Times has an image showing several Specialist Response and Security officers in full tactical gear. They wouldn’t send those guys out for nothing, so coupled with the refusal to confirm the injuries, sounds gun related.

I heard it was a shot. Heard it from a friend who reads the paper and his friend reads news.com who he knows a guy that post on some site called facebook and he has a friend who also post on facebook that googles his post to see if others are talking the same thing found that under the google search of “death in belconnen” came up with the riotact and that some person said it was a gun shot and have had their weekend canceled. BUT my origanal friend found out that his friend was not in belco at the time so his other friend was found retracting his post………. Let the POLICE do what they do best and say it was someone else so the real killer thinks they have got away with it and POUNCE, gonsky. Like the nurse thing in Sydney. GO THE COPERS!

Word on my grapevine is that the victim was shot at some point.
Heard this from a person who’s had their weekend canceled due to this ‘homicide’

Mully strikes from beyond the grave again, I wonder how much he owed?

From Sydney Morning Herald

“The apartment complex features electronic security, and swipe cards are required for access to lifts.”

Oh my god, members of the public talking about a crime. Quick, vg, come and tell everybody to move along because there is nothing to see.

Ironic that the picture used for the post has the caption “Oracle – live it up”

well, that’s the irony I was intending.

Right near my work. The forensic lads were lifting up all the drain covers checking for something. Work rumour has it that it was a machete, but work rumour says a lot of things.

I’m retracting the claim about gunshots – the person who mentioned it had heard the rumour fourth-hand and it might have been speculation.

But it could have been shots – “a number of injuries” could be anything.

The above was not a serious post.
