Does anybody know of anywhere showing sporting events in 3D?

Clubs or pubs are probably a bit hesitant, amoung other reasons, because the manufacturer recommends not drinking and ahhh 3D-ing at the same time.

i have been less than impressed by 3d tv/movies so far, as far as i can tell its just a way for companies to sell lcd/plasma screens to people who already have them.

i thought this was pretty cool, although it only works for once person at a time at the moment

Largely useless at the moment, as there are limited broadcasts in 3D. And the fact that you can pay up to $100 for each pair of glasses – Hope you don’t have too many young’uns.

Don’t go with the flow, stand there and mock the plebians, and then pay more than 50% less in a few years time.

Don’t bother, you’d be wasting your money. You’re looking at $3k plus for the tv, then another $800 for a 3D blueray and you will have nothing to watch on it other than a couple of special events and the kids will break the glasses from boredom. You’re far better off waiting for a couple of years to see whether the fad takes off or crashes (which could be likely in this case). Tell your children no.

Have you informed your kids that the manufacturers recommendation is that 3D TVs are unsafe for the little ones?

OK, seriously now…

I think several Hardly Normal stores may have demo units set-up.

Unless you’re a mildly successful media personality with too much spare cash, I would strongly advise holding off buying a 3D set and/or 3D Blu-Ray player for at least 2-5 years. Even then it may turn-out to be a white elephant (But my feeling is Hollywood’s committed this time and it will actually happen eventually).

I think the impressive Samsung ads are verging on deception. They show really awesome parallax-shifting that’s just not possible with the stereo-images the system actually uses. I.e.: You can’t move to the side to “see around” something – the same pair of image-streams hit your eyes no-matter where you position yourself.

If you’re really dead-keen to get something 3D, perhaps a computer-based setup might be the go? NVidia 3D vision setup + GTX card + Dell Alienware monitor + Blu-Ray drive (Maybe $1k +/-x)? (You can also play many games in stereo 3D, FWIW)

Just go into Harvey Norman or DOmayne or something and they will have it set up to test.

I would personally wait.
