"domestic" solar power in Canberra

So apparently the ACT let’s you have a home based solar system that has 10kw capacity per phase. One Canberran seems therefore to have gone whole hog and installed a 29.7kw system. To put this in perspective most home systems are 1-2kW.

Now a look at his site shows 120+ kWh generated per day since installation. Once again putting this in perspective, that is 4-8 times what most homes consume.

It can’t have been cheap, but it’s pretty funky 🙂

What’s it cost to install enough panels to offset a minimum of 75% of a typical families power bill?

Generating about $22k a year from ACTEW.

That still doesn’t answer the question. Surely must have cost a bit more than $22k to set up in the first place.

Good write-up from tridge himself here – scroll down for more comments as the build progressed.

His Wikipedia entry seriously understates the contributions he has made to computer software.

Does anyone know what the ROI on that sort of setup is?
