Chief Minister Stanhope has the ominous news that you’ll no longer be able to pretend Christmas isn’t coming when the Giant Christmas Tree lights up in Civic Square amongst gala celebrations on 3 December.
“Christmas in the City is Canberra’s official Christmas celebration, and as it is in many of our homes, the festivities will kick off with the lighting of Canberra’s Giant Christmas Tree,” Mr Stanhope said.
“From 7pm crowds filling Civic Square for the lighting of the Canberra Christmas tree will be entertained by ABC TV ‘Play School’ favourite and popular children’s performer Justine Clarke, A Bunch of Posers featuring Mrs Claus and her Angelic Chorus, and Santa Claus is also expected to make an appearance.
“Come nightfall, the crowd will witness Canberra’s spectacular 21m-high Christmas tree being lit.
“The ACT Government is able to provide this free family event with generous support from ActewAGL, Prime Television, Mix 106.3 and OutinCanberra.com.au.”
Mr Stanhope said that once again, event sponsor ActewAGL was ensuring that each of the lights illuminating the tree is powered by ActewAGL’s Green Choice program.
If you have little people it’s a pretty good night out.
UPDATE: On The Beast this morning Chief Minister Stanhope has announced the event has been cancelled because stuff is wet.
